from Dreyfoos community:
"Hi. As you probably know, this year, like all years in recent history, the school board is slashing funding for programs such as our's, programs that are unique & creative & arts-based. This year, you may be desensitized to the fears hanging over our heads, but the problem persists inspite of our measures to ignore it. In fact, in order to sustain the current arts programs & teachers, we must raise even more money in even less time than previous years: $600,000 by March to keep 8 arts teachers, & their respective classes, from being cut.
These figures are not simply hearsay. Today, I heard them uttered by our principle.
So, this year, we take new measures. You'll hear more about this in a up-coming ad campaign, but to support your school and the effort to save it, please copy and paste this into e-mails, journals, anywhere:
On Tuesday, February 8th, TAKE ACTION! WEAR ALL BLACK. All day.
After school, at the flagpole, till 6:
+ Odd Man Out
+ Kim Bassinger Band (<---my brothers band! woo woo!)
+ Nina Pinta
+ & student speakers [including sarah]
@ 6:
+ RALLY!
+ The press will be there
& the whole time, just outside the gates:
+ Dreyfoos Street performers
+ A mural project
+ A giant petition
But none of these incredibly cool things can happen if you don't show up. So go! and tell everyone you know to do the same."
be there you guys, we need it.
