Dad's Going to Do What?
If you know me, you know that my parents have been divorced for almost a decade. You also know that they don't get along and to even have them in the same room, for any reason, for the last ten years has been difficult, to say the least. Having said that, you could imagine my surprise today when mom tells me that dad is coming up to help Drew put in out new dishwasher. Not only that, but he came for Sarah's birthday party and sat around the table with the rest of the family and had cake. Then, he and Drew spent like 6 hours putting in the dishwasher. I mean I about had a heart attack! We all stayed in the kitchen and in the family room tonight and talked and joked while they worked. It was so nice. I barely remember having my parents together in this house. Tonight felt good. It felt so good that I almost was sad to see him leave. We had a family tonight, a real family. Dad's coming back to help finish the job tomorrow night. I'm going to try to get mom to make dinner and maybe we can all sit around and have a whole meal together.
Despite all that has happened, I still think that they love eachother. I'm not going to be the stupid kid that thinks that their parents will one day get back together; granted it's a thought, but that's about it. I'm just so excited that they're getting along so well.
