Shoes!

Today, I spent £31.50 on walking 'sandals' for my Spanish holiday, £12.99 on another pair of normal sandals (to replace the current ones when they die in approx. 10 years) and £2 on a 'pair' of comfortable trainer-like shoes that lots of women wear. The walking sandals are brown Cyclones from ALS and I'd already tried the left one on at size 5 in Blacks where they were £40. My left foot is the longer, therefore the best for starting with. I was very lucky in Milletts as they had a major dearth in sandals but they had these in a 4 so and they fitted lovely. They feel a bit wierd because I've never had a pair of walking sandals before but I think they'll be fine. I shall do some walking with them before I go (up to Wollaton park or whatever) if the weather clears up. The other two pairs were from the Stead and Simpson sale. I love Stead and Simpson because they're inexpensive and pretty damn good. They didn't have any sandals in a 4 which was a shame but, if the 5s hadn't been there, I'd've bought the 3s! The joy of sandals is that as long as the buckle holes go that far, I can fit in them from about 3 to 5. I did try another pair of random comfies in a 5 but they were way too big, and then I saw the left of the other comfy: I immediately noticed it said ODD PAIR on the sale label and checked the sizes: 5 left, 4 right. I was pretty hopeful that I'd love them! I asked for the second one, stating I was aware that they were odd, and they were nigh perfect! I can't return them, but for £2 and considering I tried them on, I don't think I'll be taking them back. I also bought a pair of earrings and another purple top from H&M and some packets of biscuits from 99p Stores (bourbons and ginger & oatmeal), but completely forgot to go to Peacocks for mini-socks.

As I was on the way from Milletts to the Broadmarsh Centre, it started raining, hence my trip into H&M (first time I've ever bought anything from a British H&M!). Once I left Boradmarsh it was quite sunny but as I approached Sainsbury's I noticed what was on its way and made it a quick stop. By the time I left, however, a bare 5mins later, the clouds were much closer and I didn't hope to make home, only Castle Bridge Road bridge, under which I could shelter. As I reached the apex of the bridge over the marina entrance immediately before, the first drops fell, and as I stopped to shelter, it threw it down. I didn't leave until the storm was well past because I didn't want to have my umbrella up in a thunderstorm! That meant I waited about half an hour but I didn't get very wet at all :)

As I've been listening to Deutschlandfunk, I've been surprised by the language and the traffic reports: turns out 'carsharen' is a new word and the technical stuff they were talking about a few minutes ago about ocean mixing and experiments relating to it were quite easy to understand. As for the traffic reports, yesterday it was animals on the carriageways, today it's parts of vehicles (notably an exhaust in the last report)! I like the fact it has news and weather every half an hour but it gets a bit same-y...
