Woooooo!
I managed to find a new copy of John Dies At The End at a Borders an hour away from me. Only $16.
It's selling on Amazon used for $100, and new for $180.
Only Borders ever carried it, and in limited quanities, around 2007. It's being made into a movie by the director of Bubba Ho-Tep, and being reprinted by some major publisher.
But I managed to get a first edition, first printing, in great condition. I'm super happy.
It's an extremely scary and an extremely funny book. Not "horror with a dash of comedy", not camp horror; it's frightening and funny at the same time. It's a really surreal work of art.
The best analogy I can think of is that it's like Silent Hill, as directed by Kevin Smith.
