Amazingly enough...

...Jim Lee does something that gets me excited.  I was already pretty intrigued by the DC relaunch anyway.  But THIS:

This kinda breaks new ground.  No, not THAT kind of ground.  Bat's and Supes throw down allafuckingtime.  What I speak of is from a purely design standpoint.  I, for one.  Am REALLY geeked about the vast majority of the DC costume overhauls.  I was worried at first. Because Jim Lee, one of the poster children of 90's crappy costume-design in comics, was spear-heading the visual parts of the "New 52".  And I was REALLY concerned that this would result in many classic characters looking like holdovers from the Image/Wildstorm/Top-Cow days.  And in some instances: that's the case.  But not many.  But I digress.

THIS panel represents a first in that The Man of Tomorrow and the Dark Knight look equally bad ass. Usually it just looks like the The Goddamn Batman squaring off against some douche in tights.  NOT the case here.  They both look capable and impressive.  Usually with Supes, you have to draw him at some odd, heroic angle.  This is pretty much just a straight shot.  Not to kick a dead horse, but: Bad. Ass.

I look forward to the relaunch.  I look forward to a DCU where Batman isn't neccessarily the most impressive looking mofo in the League. In fact:  I hope this reboot does a lot bring the Dark Knight to a more grounded, less "best at everything" level.  The same way I hope this reboot does away with Superman being an insurmountable powerhouse that can just punch or heat vision his way out of any situation.

I'm kind of bummed that no place in Lansing is doing the Midnight Madness relaunch of the Justice League tonight.  I'm kind of antsy to read it (I REALLY hope the story is on par with the art.  otherwise I'll just start having those visions of the bad ol days of the 90's all over again).  Rest assured though, as soon as I'm out of class tomorrow morning, I'll be jetting over to Clem's before I head to work to get my copy.

You should too.  Even if you don't really read comics.  They're good for you (They're also offering them in digital format the same day of release.  Just a thought to all you more in love with digital types).
