Of all the relationships in her life-successful and failed, getting herself involved with a serial monogamist could’ve been the dumbest thing she’d ever done, but she looks back on the memories surprisingly fondly.
The night after he met Wife #3, he returned her key. No harm. No foul.
“What’s she like?”
“She’s nice.” He trailed his fingertips up her bare arm. “Sweet.”
“’Nice and sweet.’ She sounds like a light dessert. What’s her name?”
“Do you really want to know?”
She propped herself up on her elbow and looked into his eyes. “Well, Dr. Wilson, I’m sure there will be a time when the new confection and I will come face to face. Preferably before the wedding day.”
“Who said anything about getting married?”
She leveled him with a look usually reserved for their mutual friend. He lasted a full 30 seconds before he cracked a smile to admit she was right.
“Julie.”
“Julie Wilson,” she tried it out. “Sounds good-like a doctor’s wife.”
“She’s nice.”
She rolled on top of him and pressed a kiss to his mouth. “And sweet.”
