I shuffled out this morning after a too-short night's sleep and found that Boo-Cat had pulled the throw blanket half off the chair. Half the chair was exposed, and the blanket was still draped over the rest. Bubba the Hutt jumped up a minute later, shoved his face under the blanket, and his tail -- which was plainly visible -- started lashing about. I'm gonna get Mom ... she can't see me, and I'm gonna get her .... Bless him.
Giada Di Laurentiis's classic lasagna recipe is pretty good. I like all the ricotta, mozzarella, and parmesan, of course, but I'd prefer a straight tomato sauce to the bechamel. I'd do a lot less spinach and more of other vegetables, like carrots and broccoli. And I'd rather have Italian sausage instead of ground beef. The whole thing just seemed kind of bland. I stick to the directions the first time I try a recipe, and then the next time I branch out and get creative. I can't wait to get creative with this one now that I've got the basics down.
Oh! The real pleasure of last night's dinner was the fruit. I mixed some vanilla yogurt with cinnamon and then stirred green grapes and blueberries in to make a kind of fruit salad. It was delicious. Mom suggested sliced apples and bananas would work, too. I had more salad with breakfast: yum yum yum yum yum.
The red flats from Torrid arrived the day after I bought them online! I'm in shock; the website said February 7th. And to think ... I almost paid extra for faster shipping. They're adorable: bright red cloth flats with a little ruffle all the way around the mouth of the shoe. They were a little large, and they have zero support (a very thin sole), but a pair of insoles took care of both problems. I shall wear them with everything except fuchsia.
After reading a charming three-way crossover of Supernatural, Harry Potter, and Sherlock told from John Watson's PoV, I wanted to find out more about Supernatural. I asked my own personal television guru about it, and he was excited that I wanted to see some of it. We watched the first four episodes all in one go last night. Rather freaky, but it's fun, and I went back to the fic again once I knew who these Hunters were and what they did. I don't like things jumping out at me, but when me tensing up results in a reassuring touch from Phil, I found myself showing a little more apprehension than I actually felt by the fourth episode.
Not much Phil in the coming weeks: his brother is coming down from Oregon for a month-long visit. I've avoided his company over the last three weeks so he wouldn't get my cold, and now that Steve is coming, most of Phil's spare time will be taken up with improvements to the house. I don't want to be pushy about not being able to see him much because he has enough stress in his life, but the timing could be better. At least we can talk by phone, and he should be able to get away once a week for a date.
Stared reading Sherlock Holmes. According to the introduction, the 1100+ page book I bought second hand is the entire ACD canon. I'm only six chapters into A Study in Scarlet, but I'm enjoying it immensely!
I've been putting off the dreadful moment when I start on the dishes. I cooked chicken stock, a chocolate cream pie, and the lasagna yesterday, and the debris is all over my sink and kitchen counter. I suppose it's time to face up to it. Besides, I need a clean bowl so I can prepare the basil and tomatoes for tonight's dinner.
