ready, set, go!
softobsidian74 put out a call yesterday for writing buddies for this morning. She's on the East Coast, so 10 a.m. is a perfectly reasonable time for her, but I'm still groggy at 7 my time. But I'm here, though I'll only be on for about an hour.
Edit: One hour, my foot. Over the last two hours, I've done a bit of research, watched a YouTube video several times (more research ... really!), and written 590 words. UST scene in a way that's been done a few times before, but as the UST stays U, I hope it's different this time:

‘Thank you, your majesty,’ Severus said sardonically, glancing at the board. She smirked again once he looked up. They locked eyes, refusing to look away from each other for a long moment. He broke the silence and said, ‘Queen to d7,’ without looking away from her. It wasn’t checkmate, it wasn’t even check, but now it was only a matter of time before he would have her.

The UST needs more ST, but this is only the first draft.
