A/N Okay this ones a little long, I went a little crazy with my writing. :) I hope you like it, I really enjoyed writing this chapter. :)

Callie slowly wakes to the constant beeping coming from the heart monitor she’s connected to. She opens her eyes sighing in annoyance. Callie smiles as her eyes focus on the site that’s in front of her, it’s been a month since she’s woken up with her beautiful girlfriend by her side.

Callie quietly removes the oxygen mask, placing it on the mattress in between herself and Arizona. She softly runs her hand up Arizona’s arm, smirking when she hears her moan softly in her sleep. Callie lays there watching Arizona sleep peacefully; she can’t help but think how lucky she is, maybe not in the sense that she got hit by a car, but in the sense, that she gets a second chance with the love of her life. Callie shakes her head as the constant beeping from the heart monitor grates against her ears.

No wonder patients get grumpy and annoyed with machines like these I don’t blame them, she thought to herself. Callie grasps the leads that hang over the top of her gown and pulls them off. She braces herself knowing this will cause the machine to screech.

Arizona’s wakes to the screeching noise of the ECG machine flat lining. She swiftly jumps off the bed “Callie” She screams as she panics looking at the Machine. She turns back toward the bed bracing herself to start CPR, when she see her girlfriend smiling at her. Arizona let out a visible sigh of relief. She notices the leads in Callie’s hand, and leans over to mute the ECG machine.

Callie laughs at Arizona’s reaction, quickly grabbing her stomach “Shit” She winces.

“That’s what you get for scaring me half to death.” Arizona sighs.

Callie smiles innocently at her, she grabs Arizona’s arm, and pulls her back down onto the bed, Arizona curls up on her side facing Callie. “I’m sorry. The beeping was just irritating the shit out of me.” Callie tells her honestly.

“Well, I get that, but you scared me so much. I thought, I was going to lose you yesterday Calliope, and that… that noise, is a noise I never want to hear coming from a heart monitor connected to you.”

Callie nods her head in understanding, giving Arizona another apologetic smile. Callie clutches at the front of Arizona’s top with her good hand and pulls her closer, so that Arizona’s body is pressing gently into her side, Callie smirks at her, “Kiss me.” She whispers, it almost comes out as a beg.

Arizona smiles before leaning in and kissing Callie softly. They both sigh when their lips touch, Arizona moves her hand up to cup Callie’s face as she deepens the kiss. She runs her tongue along Callie’s bottom lip seeking entrance, Callie doesn’t hesitate she deepens the kiss, grasping the material bunched in her hands tighter, pulling Arizona as close as she can.

Callie runs her hand up under the front of Arizona’s top needing to feel more of her girlfriend, Arizona moans as she feels Callie’s finger move across, her sensitive skin. Callie runs her hand over Arizona’s side to her back, scraping her fingers across the soft tender skin, she starts to move her hands further up Arizona body. Callie stretches too causing pain to shoot through her stomach, she winces and stops the movement of her hand.

Arizona feels Callie wince against her body, she pulls back from the kiss. “Do you need some more pain killers?” Arizona asks, standing up and reaching for Callie’s chart, flipping through it. “You were due for some Morphine about” She looks at her watch “6 hours ago. Wow, we slept for over 6 hours.” Arizona states in disbelief. She knew she was tired but she didn’t think she’d be able to sleep for that long in the noisy hospital room.

“Not Morphine.” Callie says through her pain.

Arizona looks down at her girlfriend, “Why not Morphine? It’ll help with the pain Baby.” Arizona says sitting back on the bed.

“Lay back down with me, please, I want to hold onto this moment at little longer, and then I promise I’ll let you get me something for the pain.” Callie asks pleadingly.

“Callie, you need something for the pain now.” Arizona tells her.

“Just one more kiss, Please?” Callie begs.

Arizona sighs in defeat she’s never been able to deny Callie a kiss before. Leaning back down she places a soft affectionate kiss on Callie’s lips. Callie carefully moves her hand up to cup Arizona’s face running her thumb across Arizona’s cheek. Arizona smiles into the kiss, loving the feel of Callie’s lips on hers and of Callie’s hand on her cheek.

Arizona pulls back from the kiss and rests her forehead on Callie’s gently. “I love you so much Calliope.”

“I love you too Arizona.” Callie replies, leaning up to capture the blonde’s lips in another heated kiss. Callie moans into Arizona’s mouth when their tongues meet in battle for dominance inside Arizona’s mouth.

Callie and Arizona quickly pull apart from the kiss when they hear someone clearing their throat at the door. Arizona turns her head to see who it is, she stands up in shock. “Mr Torres, Mrs Torres.” She greets them with embarrassment, her face turning a bright shade of red.

“Dr Robbins.” Carlos Torres greets a small smirk on his face. Marie Torres doesn’t say anything to Arizona she just looks through her at Callie laying in the bed.

Callie can see Arizona’s embarrassment, she takes Arizona’s hand in hers, giving it a reassuring squeeze. “Daddy, Mama.” Callie greets a massive grin spreading across her face.

“Calliope.” Callie mum sighs rushing towards the bed. Arizona steps aside to give Callie’s mum some room, Marie wraps her daughter in a gentle hug, which Callie to wince again as pain to shoot through her stomach, it doesn’t go unnoticed by Arizona, who’s watching the interaction out of the corner of her eye.

Arizona looks up and smiles at Carlos as he makes his way further into the room, he stops in front of Arizona and smiles at her before pulling her into a hug, shocking her, she returns the hug and smiles to herself. “You okay?” He whispers in her ear. She nods softly in response.

Carlos pulls back from the hug and looks at her, searching her eyes for the truth. “Have you ate, showered, seen sunlight, or had any fresh air in the last day?” He asks concerned.

“No sir. I’ve been here.” Arizona says looking over at Callie who’s mid way through a conversation with her mother in Spanish. She smiles at the grin that’s spread across Callie’s face. Callie catches Arizona looking at her and her grin grows wider.

“Mama.” Callie says gaining the attention of everyone in the room. “This here is Arizona Robbins, my girlfriend.” Callie says gesturing towards Arizona. Arizona smiles politely. “It’s nice to finally meet you Mrs Torres.” Arizona tells her honestly.

Callie mum sighs. “You too.” She replies half heartedly. Callie’s eyebrow shoots up and she’s about to say something to her mother when her eyes lock with Arizona’s, she sees the pleading look in them begging her not to start anything. Callie sighs and bites her tongue, she doesn’t have the energy to argue right now anyway. “Dr Robbins, you can go now, Callie’s family is here to be by her side.” Marie announces shocking everyone in the room.

“Mama!” Callie shouts in shock. “¿Cómo te atreves a hablar con ella como esa, ella es mi novia, ella no ha dejado a mi lado desde que salí de la cirugía” Callie starts to rant in Spanish “Ella es mejor recibido en esta sala a continuación, es usted, si usted va a ser rudo con ella. I love her, she is my family, and she’s my future.” Callie declares, looking at Arizona as she lets her statement be known to everyone in the room. "I thought you and Dad accepted me and my relationship.” Callie asks her mother confused.

“Three days ago, you were broken up, your father may have accepted, but I will not. Calliope, yo soy tu mamá, sé cuál es el mejor para usted. Esta lesbiana no lo es.” Marie retorts.

Callie gasps at her mother’s words. “How dare you!?” Callie shouts

“Marie” Carlos interrupts. “Apologise now, to your daughter, and to Arizona for such cruel words.” Carlos tells her.

“I’m not a two year old Carlos, I don’t need to be reprimanded, I know what I said and I’m not apologizing for it.” Marie angrily replies.

Arizona stands to the side of the room in shock, she didn’t expect this, she doesn’t know how to reply, firstly half the arguments in Spanish so she can’t defend herself since she doesn’t know what’s being said. Secondly, she has no words, she’s speechless. She looks at Callie and can see the anger building up inside of her girlfriend.

“If you had any idea     ” Callie starts coughing and struggling for air. Arizona quickly makes her way to Callie’s side and places the oxygen mask that’s lying on the bed, back on Callie.

“Breath Callie. Deep breaths, please Calm down.” Arizona whispers to Callie soothingly, running her hand up and down Callie’s arm. Arizona picks up the heart monitor leads and pulls Callie’s hospital gown down, to reconnect the leads to the electrodes still connected to Callie’s chest. Arizona watches as Callie’s sinus rhythm appears on the screen. “You need to stay calm, you’ve just had major surgery.” Arizona tells her.

“Do you know    “ Arizona holds her hand in the air.

“I don’t care; I care about you not dying on me okay?” Arizona tells her seriously.

“Is she okay?” Carlos asks Arizona concerned.

“She’ll be fine. She just needs to stay calm.” Arizona explains.

“This is your fault, you being here its causing her stress, we’ve flown across the country to be with her, you should respect that and leave.” Maria advises her rudely.

“Oh my god!” Callie screams breathlessly.

“Callie shut it.” Arizona tells her sharply. Callie looks at Arizona in shock. Arizona gives her an apologetic look. “Sorry. I’m going to go, my parents have been sitting in the waiting room for over 12 hours.” Arizona explains softly. “Plus visiting rules say only two visitors at a time, your parents have flown in. You spend time with them, and I’ll be back later. I promise.” Arizona tells her leaning in and kissing her cheek. “I love you.” She whispers gently into Callie’s ear. “Stay calm, please.”

“You don’t have to go.” Callie whispers tears glistening in her eyes.

“I know, but my parents fly out in a few hours. I should at least see them off. I’ll be back soon though.” Arizona reassures her. “Do you need anything?”

“Where’s my phone, can you get it for me?” Callie asks her looking at the bedside table, hoping to see it sitting there. “And maybe some pajamas, these hospital gowns are a little breezy. I’d give you my house keys but I don’t know where they are.”

“I think your phone and keys went missing in the accident.” Arizona reaches into her pocket. “Here, have my phone, if you need to contact me, my mum’s number is in there, or have me paged. I’ll find Cristina, or Mark. Mark still has a spare key right?” Arizona inquires.

“Yeah he does.” Callie replies. Arizona gives her a small smile, before turning to leave.

“Mr Torres, please make sure she stays calm and rests. Also make sure when the nurse comes by that Callie gets her pain killers, she slept through her last lot.” Arizona lets Carlos know.

“Carlos, please call me Carlos.” He smiles. “I’ll do my best to make sure she rests.”

Arizona leaves the room and rounds the corner quickly making her way towards the exit, a tear falls down her face. She didn’t know what to expect with Callie’s mum, but she never thought this would happen. Arizona steps out into the waiting room, and crumbles allowing the tears to flow freely when she sees her mum walking towards her.

“Ari, what’s wrong? Is Callie okay?” Anne asks scared.

“She’s fine. Her mum kicked me out.” Arizona sobs.

Anne wraps her arms around her daughter holding her tight. She can see how emotionally drained her daughter is. Arizona collapses in her mum’s arms clinging to her. “She did what?” Anne asks shocked.

Arizona pulls out of the hug and wipes her eyes. “She told me that her family is here now to look after her, and that I’m basically no longer needed.” Arizona tells her mum, the last of her tears falling down her cheeks, she quickly wipes them away.

Anne takes a deep breath furious. She has watched her daughter go through hell and back over the last 24 hours, and this woman has just dismissed her from being there for Callie.

Arizona takes a deep breath, calming herself down. “I’m okay, I’m just emotional, and I need food. I’m starving actually.” Arizona chuckles trying to make her parents worry less.

Daniel steps forward and wraps an arm around his daughter. “Come on, you can buy us lunch.” He jokes.

“I’d love to. But I left my bag and wallet in the room. So it looks like lunch is on you Dad.” Arizona cheekily replies.

“Come on then.” Daniel sighs before laughing.

Arizona wraps her dad in a hug and holds him tight. “Thank you, for waiting.” She says appreciatively.

Daniel kisses the top of her head, “No need to thank us. It’s what parents do.” He replies.

----

I can’t believe you did that.” Callie shouts, take her oxygen mask off.

“Calliope, Arizona told you to stay calm.” Her Dad reminds her.

“I’ll stay calm, when I know that she can come back into this room, without being treated like scum.” Callie says coughing as breathing starts to become an issue again.

“Calliope, I want to get you transferred back to Miami, while you recover.” He mother tells her ignoring Callie’s previous statement. “I’m your mother and I have the right to decide, where you get treated. You’re going to need a lot of care, with a broken wrist and ankle, you’ll be limited to what you can do. I’ll look after you.”

Callie stares at her mother in shock. “Who are you?” She asks in disgust. “I’m not leaving here. And I promise you one thing, if you stand in the way of Arizona and me, I’ll choose her again, I will always choose her, and I’ll never speak to you again.” Callie promises, coughing and gasping for air, she quickly places the oxygen mask back on, taking deep breaths.

“Calliope, please calm down.” Carlos says stepping forward and placing a hand on his daughters shoulder soothing her. “No one is taking you anywhere.” He reassures her looking over at his wife. “She stays here in Seattle. She has Arizona and her friends here. I’ll pay for a home care nurse if she needs it.”

“This is your fault Carlos. You accepted your daughter and her sin, you’ve allowed her to live in sin for almost a year, and now look, she defies her parents’ wishes, and now she doesn’t respect us anymore.” Marie rants.

“That’s where you’re wrong Marie, she will respect you even more when accept her and love her for who she is.” Carlos shakes his head. “Calliope, I’ll be back, I’m just going to go talk to the nurse about your pain meds.” He lies, stepping out of the room.

Callie nods knowing that her father really just wanted to get away before he starts yelling. Callie wishes she could escape with him.

“Calliope, I love you, and want what’s best for you. Arizona can’t give you things that you need.” Marie says.

Callie rolls her eyes. “I have no energy to talk to you right now, you can sit there and shut up, or you can just leave. It’s your choice.” Callie snaps, picking up Arizona’s phone that was lying in her lap. She starts to type a text.

‘Mark, its Callie, I need your help. I need you to go into my bedroom and in the top draw of my bedside table at the back is my will. I need you to get it and the papers that are there with it. I need you to get Arizona to sign the last page, of the second document. My mum’s threatening to take me back to Miami for treatment; she’s my next of kin at the moment, and if anything happens and I’m not conscious or lucid, she gets to make the decisions. I don’t want that, Please hurry.’ Callie presses the send button and hopes Mark is at home or at least not in surgery. Callie closes her eyes trying to relax and ignore the fact that her mother is sitting next to the bed staring at her.

Callie feels the phone in her hand vibrate, thankful that it’s on silent and even more thankful that Mark replied so quickly. She opens the text and reads it. ‘Shit Cal, what is with your family wanting to drag you away from us? I just got the documents I’ll be at the hospital in ten minutes, is Arizona still with you?’

Callie sighs in relief, ‘No mum kicked her out of the room, she’s gone to spend time with her parents. She may be in the cafeteria eating, if not just page her. Thanks Mark.’ Callie replies.

‘Anytime Cal… oh and I didn’t know miss perky was into kinky stuff?’ Mark replies. Callie stares at the text for a second, she gasps when she remembers what else was hidden in her draw.

“Everything okay Calliope?” Her mother asks curious as to who she’s texting.

“Yeah, everything’s fine.” Callie snaps, not wanting to talk to her mum yet.

Callie quickly types her reply, ‘Mark Sloan, if you so much as tell anyone or hint on to anyone what you saw, I swear to you, I’ll tell everyone that you have genital herpes and you won’t get laid by a single person in this hospital ever again! Oh and if you so much as let Arizona know, I will make sure you can never use your little Sloan again… remember the pain from Lexie breaking it? That won’t even compare to mine.’

‘I’m shocked, do you honestly think I would gossip about this? Plus Cal, you and I both know it’s not so little…’ Mark cockily replies.

Callie laughs and rolls her eyes. ‘That’s what you think Mark. And yes, because it’s you and you can’t help but tease people and spread gossip. As your best friend I’m begging you to keep this little bit of information to yourself?’ Callie pleads.

‘Relax Cal, I wouldn’t… it’ll be hard, but I won’t. You should rest, I’ll be there soon. How’s the pain?’ Mark asks her genuinely concerned for his best friend.

‘I’m in a fair amount of pain. Dads gone to ask about pain meds, but I don’t want any morphine. It makes me drowsy and I can’t have that with my mum here, I need to be ready for what she may say or do. Well until I have that paper work and Arizona here with me, then they can dose me up, and make me as high as a kite.’ Callie jokes.

‘I’ll be there as soon as I can. Once I’ve found blondie and had her sign the form I’ll bring them up to you. At least try and sleep for me. You really scared me yesterday Cal, don’t do that again.’ Mark tells her.

Callie smiles as she reads Marks text not bothering to reply, she grips Arizona’s phone tightly, not wanting to let it go incase her mum takes it, she allows her eyes to close slowly falling asleep.

---

Carlos walks down the hallway towards the waiting room, hoping he hasn’t missed Arizona, once he turns the corner he sees the blonde standing there with two other people, who he figures must be her parents.

“Dr Robbins.” He calls out as he approaches.

Arizona turns around, shock set across her face. She didn’t expect to see Carlos walking towards her. “Arizona, please call me Arizona.” She tells him, a sad smile spread across her lips.

“Arizona, I just want to apologise, my wife is out of line. I’ve had more time to wrap my head around Calliope’s love life then she has. I’ve seen you two together; I’ve spoken to you and gotten to know a little about you. That does not excuse the way she treated you though.” Carlos explains.

“It’s okay, I just hope your wife knows that I didn’t leave that room because she told me to, I left because Callie was getting worked up, and because your wife wasn’t going to leave it alone. I left for Callie’s health, I also left because I want to spend some time with my parents before they go. I will be back, and Mrs Torres will just have to deal with it.” Arizona states.

Carlos smiles. “I was wondering where the fighter within you went. I know you’ll be back, and no matter what Marie says, you are more welcome in that room then we are. Calliope is happy we’re here, but I saw the change in her the minute you left the room. She needs you for her recovery.” He tells her sincerely.

Carlos looks at the two figures standing slightly to the side of Arizona. “Sorry how rude of me. Carlos this is my mother Anne Robbins, and this is my father Colonel Daniel Robbins.” Arizona says introducing her parents to Carlos. “Mum, dad this is Calliope’s father Carlos Torres.”

Carlos places a kiss on Arizona’s mum’s cheek smiling at her warmly, and shakes her dad’s hand. “Nice to meet you, I wish it could’ve been under better circumstances.” Carlos says honestly.

“It’s a pleasure to finally meet you too.” Anne responds. “If you’ll excuse me, I’m just going to use the ladies room.” Anne excuses herself and walks down the hallway.

“Thank you, for being here. I’m sorry you’ve spent most of your trip here in this waiting room and not with your daughter.” Carlos tells Daniel.

“We wouldn’t be anywhere else.” Daniel says wrapping a protective arm around Arizona.

“You have an amazing daughter Colonel. I couldn’t be happier for her and Calliope” Carlos confesses. Arizona blushes at Carlos’ words.

“Please call me Daniel.” Daniel replies.

“It was your daughter, who put me in my place about the way I originally treated Calliope, when she came out to me. Your daughter is brave, to face the angry father of the woman she’s dating that takes courage.”

Carlos turns his attention to Arizona. “Thank you, for opening my eyes and making me realise that Callie is still the same person I raised her to be, she’s still my little girl, and who she loves doesn’t change that. I hope her mother realizes that before she pushes her away.” Carlos admits.

Arizona smiles, “I’m glad you realized too. You mean so much to Callie, she was hurting so much, and I couldn’t live with myself if I didn’t at least try and explain things to you, to help you understand.”

Daniel smiles down at his daughter. “She really is something else.” He says proudly. “Callie has made my daughter very happy, that’s all a father can want for their child.”

“That’s all I want for Calliope, to be happy, and I can see they make each other very happy.” Carlos says.

“My wife and I are going to take Arizona to get something to eat in the cafeteria, and hopefully convince her to go shower and change. Can we get you something? We can bring it back for you and your wife if you’d like?” Daniel offers.

“Thank you, but we ate not long ago.” Carlos replies. “Arizona, please go rest for a little, Calliope will be okay, I’ll make sure her mother doesn’t stress her out too much.”

“I can’t promise that I’ll rest, I do promise to at least eat and shower before I come back.” Arizona jokes.

“That’s good, I didn’t want to tell you, but you’re starting to stink.” Carlos laughs a cheeky grin spreading across his face.

Arizona laughs and smiles, she’s happy that Callie’s dad has accepted that she and Callie love each other. “Can you let her know that I’m okay?” Arizona asks. “If she’s not asleep, she’ll be worrying and angry about what happened. Tell her, that I’m okay. And that I’ve gone to eat and shower so that I can be healthy for her.”

“I’ll tell her.” Carlos replies stepping forward giving Arizona a hug. “I am sorry for the way my wife treaded you. I will talk to her tonight.”

“It’s okay, it’ll take time, and if she doesn’t accept us, there isn’t much we can do, but I’m not going to lose Callie or give her up because her mother doesn’t approve.” Arizona confesses.

“I wouldn’t expect you to.” Carlos smiles. “Well I better get back to Callie and see how she’s going and to make sure my wife is still alive.” Carlos jokes, he turns and shakes Arizona dad’s hand. “It was so nice to meet you.” Carlos says honestly.

“It was nice meeting you too.” Daniel replies, Carlos turns and walks back down the hallway stopping at the nurse’s station.

“I think mum must’ve got lost.’ Arizona suggests looking around.

“She’s not lost. I know exactly where she is.” Daniel tells her smiling.

Arizona looks at her father confusion written all over her face, she suddenly realizes the only place her mum could be. “You mean?” She asks.

Daniel smiles and nods, Arizona turns and starts to walk down the hall. Daniel places a hand on Arizona’s shoulder to stop her from walking. “Let her be your mother for once.”

Arizona sighs, “But you’ve not met Calliope’s mum.” Arizona replies.

“You need to give your mother more credit, she’s been married to a marine for almost 40 years, she can handle herself” Daniel admits a smile crossing his face.

---

Taking a deep breath Anne walks into Callie’s room, she has so much going through her head, part anger towards Callie’s mum, but mainly concern for the injured girl lying in the hospital bed.

Marie looks up from the book she’s reading, when she hears someone step into the room, she expects to see her husband standing there, she’s a little surprised to see some else she doesn’t recognize. She offers Anne a small smile and watches as she crosses the room, standing next to Callie’s bed.

Anne places her hand on Callie’s arm gently and rubs it before leaning in a placing a soft kiss on Callie’s cheek. Callie’s eyes flicker open. She smiles when her eyes adjust and Anne comes into view. “I didn’t mean to wake you.” Anne whispers.

“It’s okay.” Callie says taking the oxygen mask off since her breathing’s settled down. “How’s Arizona?” Callie asks concerned.

Anne smiles, “She’s okay, a little exhausted I’m going to take her to get something to eat and to have a shower, and then I’ll send her back to you okay?” Anne suggests.

“Sounds good, make sure she actually eats.” Callie says.

“Don’t worry I will. I’m her mother, I have my ways.” Anne jokes.

Marie was watching the exchange between the two women. “You’re Dr Robbins mother?” She asks annoyed.

Callie turns to look at her mum then back to Anne. “Mum this is Arizona’s mum Anne. Anne this is my mother Marie.” Callie introduces.

“It’s nice to meet you.” Anne greets politely even though she can feel her anger rising.

Marie huffs, “This is your daughters fault, Calliope isn’t gay, it’s your daughter whose made her think she is.”

Calliope opens her mouth to speak, but Anne squeezes her arm softly. “You stay calm sweetie. I have this.” She tells her smiling. Anne looks up at Marie, “You cannot blame my daughter for any of this. Callie is a grown woman, who can make her own decisions and choices in life. I for one know that Arizona isn’t the first woman that your daughter has dated.” Anne gives Callie and apologetic look for letting that slip.

“You’re lying.” Marie snaps.

“She’s not.” Callie whispers quietly looking at her mum. “Her name was Erica Hahn.” Callie sighs; she doesn’t really want to get into this right now.

“Maybe you should be concerned as to why your daughter, is too scared to come to you and tell you these things. The one person in the world that she should be able to trust, she can’t confide in.” Anne states.

“I’m always here for my daughter, I love my daughter more than you’ll even know.” Marie shouts.

“I have no doubt that you love your daughter, because it’s human nature too. But I ask you this, do you love your daughter for who she is? Do you love your daughter as a Lesbian?” Anne questions.
“I cannot accept this, it is not right, it is a sin.” Marie replies.

“So you don’t love your daughter unconditionally then?” Anne says.

“Of course I do.” Marie retorts.

Callie huffs. “No you don’t.”

Anne rubs her hand soothingly up Callie’s arm, and smiles down at her.

“You say you love her unconditionally, but I’m standing here looking at this beautiful, smart, wonderful and amazingly kind and talented woman, who happens to be in love with my daughter, and I don’t see any acceptance from you.” Anne tells her.

“I do accept Calliope, but she likes men, she was married to a man. It doesn’t make sense.” Marie admits.

“Callie may have been married to a man, but was she happy? Was she ever complete?” Anne asks.

“No.” Callie replies softly, “I’ve never felt complete, well not until I met Arizona.” Callie smiles.

“I didn’t know this.” Marie confesses.

“I didn’t know I was missing anything, until I met Arizona Mama.” Callie admits.

Anne looks between the two of them and smiles, “ As a mother, as Callie’s mother all that should really matter to you is her happiness, not who she loves or who she falls asleep next to at night. The only thing that matters is our daughters’ happiness, and by god do they make each other happy, and if you took the time to step back and watch them you’ll see it. You just have to look in their eyes when they are together and it’s like nothing else matters in the world.” Anne tells Marie.

“I just don’t understand. I don’t know what I did wrong” Marie sighs.

“We will never completely understand Marie, but as their mothers we accept and love them. As a mother who’s been through this, let me tell you, you’re allowed to have feelings of disappointment, because this isn’t the life you wanted for your daughter, you can be selfish and upset for the things you think you’re going to miss out on. You can be angry because your daughter won’t have the same rights as a straight couple, but no daughter deserves to have a mother that won’t stand by them, that won’t accept them.” Anne conveys

“You did nothing wrong, I did nothing wrong, we raised our children right, you just have to look at who they are as human beings, and be proud of what they’ve become. Your daughter is an amazing surgeon, she’s smart and kind and she loves my daughter. If you love your daughter as much as you say you do, then prove it. Show your daughter that you accept her, for who she is, because that’s what we do, as parents as mothers, as decent human beings, we accept and love each other. Life is too short to let things get in the way of that.” Anne says

Marie looks at Callie, “I’m sorry, I do love you. I love you so much; I just want what’s best for you.” She tells her.

“Arizona is what’s best for me Mama. I’ve never been happier. Please, I need you to be okay with this, I don’t want to lose you because of who I love, because of who I want to spend the rest of my life with.” Callie says. Anne smiles at Callie’s last statement.

Marie stands up and walks over to the side of the bed. “I’ll try. I still don’t understand it, I’m worried you’re going to miss out on so much, that’s part of life, I wanted a wedding, I missed your first one Calliope, I wanted grand children. I might be selfish, but it’s something I wanted. It’s hard to think that I won’t get that now.” Marie confesses.

“Who said you won’t get those things?” Callie asks.

“It’s not legal Calliope. And you can’t stand in a church in front of god and vow to spend the rest of your life with a woman, it’s not right.” Marie replies.

“It may not be legal yet, and it may not happen in a church. But that doesn’t mean I can’t put on a dress and walk down the aisle and declare my love for Arizona, in front of my family and friends. One day if Arizona wants me, I plan on doing that. And you’ll get that wedding Mama, I’ll get that wedding that you’ve wanted for me. Daddy can walk me down the aisle, you can sit there and cry and be happy. Children, well that’s still be discussed, and even if we don’t have children, I’ll be happy with Arizona. And that’s all I can ask for.

“We’ll have children.”

All three heads turn to the door to see Arizona, Daniel and Carlos standing there. Arizona’s smiles as tears run down her cheek. She walks towards the bed and stops a few feet from it. “We’ll have children, I almost lost you, and I can’t live without you. I want to spend the rest of my life with you, and I want your children to be a part of that.” Arizona announces

Callie has the biggest grin spread across her face, tears running down her cheeks. She didn’t expect Arizona to be standing there when she was telling her mother everything, but right now she’s so glad she was.

“Really?” Callie sighs

“Really.” Arizona affirms before walking the last distance to the bed and kissing Callie. She pulls back from the kiss and rests her forehead on Callie’s gently. “I love you, I never want to love anyone else for as long as I live.”

Callie smiles and loses herself in the blue eyes above her. “I love you too, and they’d be our kids. But kids or no kids, I know that I want no one else.”

“I suppose you don’t need these now?” Mark asks from the doorway smirking.

Arizona sighs at the sound of Marks voice, she stands up and turns towards him. “We really need to teach you manners, and how not to ruin perfect moments.” She states.

“Hey I was just doing as I was instructed, to do. Callie told me to find you, and that I did. She didn’t tell me not to interrupt perfect moments.” Mark says shrugging.

Callie rolls her eyes. “Thanks Mark, just place them on the table over there.” Callie tells him.

Arizona looks around the room and realizes that everything that just transpired happened in front of both her parents and both of Callie’s. She look at both her parents who are smiling for ear to ear, she takes notice of Carlos who also has smile on his face. Arizona gulps and turns towards Callie’s mum not knowing what her reaction will be, her eyes go wide when she sees Marie with tears running down her face and smiling.

Marie walks around the bed towards Arizona. “I’m so sorry for how I treated you, I’m still learning how to deal. My deepest apologise.” She tells her before pulling her into a bone crunching hug. Arizona returns the hug.

“It’s okay. I understand the reasons.” Arizona replies

“It’s good to know that 3 of our best doctor know how to count.” Julie says while rolling her eyes and entering the room. “How’s your pain Callie?” Julie asks her.

“It’s been better” Callie replies

“I have some morphine tablets for you. They should help with the pain.” Julie says walking around the side of the bed.

“Morphine makes me drowsy and out of it, I don’t want them.” Callie tells Julie.

“Callie, just take them.” Mark says from his spot leaning against the wall, knowing the reasons behind her not wanting them. “Everything will be okay.” Mark smiles and leans down to pick up the papers and places them under his arm, making sure Callie knows he’s going to look after them.

Callie looks at Arizona, who walks over and sits on the edge of the bed next to her. “Take them baby, they’ll help with the pain and they’ll help you sleep.” Arizona whispers, running her thumb over Callie’s face. Callie nods before taking the tablets from Julie and a having a sip of water to down them with.

“Okay, only two people can stay. Everyone else clear out.” Julie tells them walking towards the door, she turns around. “I mean.”

Arizona’s parents walk over and give Callie a kiss on the cheek. “We’ll talk to you soon. You rest up, hopefully next time we’re in town it’s less eventful.” Anne jokes.

“Have a safe trip back.” Callie tells them.

Arizona leans down and kisses Callie on the lips. “I love you, I’ll be back later okay? I’m going to go eat something and then to see my parents off. I’ll bring some stuff from yours back with me.” Arizona says, kissing her again.

“I love you too.” Callie whispers when Arizona pulls back from the kiss.

Callie watches as Arizona and her parents leave the room followed by Mark. She smiles at her dad as he walks towards the bed. He leans down and kisses her forehead. “Sleep mija.” He whispers, before taking the seat next to the bed.

Callie looks lover at her mum and gives her a smile, “Thank you.” She says.

“I’m sorry Calliope, I hope you can forgive me.” Maria apologises.

“Of course I can, Mama. You didn’t understand, I get that. Hell I didn’t understand for a while either. It’s a process, but you’ll get there.” Callie explains yawning.

“Sleep mija, we’ll talk later.” Maria says placing a kiss on Callie’s cheek.

“Love you Mama, Love you Papa.” Callie tells them as her eyelids close and sleep takes her.

“Love you too Calliope.” They both reply.
