A/N Because I've been bored and I left you all hanging at the end of the last chapter, I thought I'd be nice and update this story for you. :)
Arizona’s was thankful that her shift was over for the day, it felt like it'd gone on forever, ever since her misunderstanding with Callie. Arizona was standing outside the main entrance to the hospital; she wrapped her arms around herself and pulled her coat in tighter trying to keep warm. She walked over and took a seat on the bench just outside the entrance.
Callie walked out of the lift and sighed, she was so glad her day was over, she loved fixing bones, but this afternoon she just wasn't in the mood. Her mind kept wandering back to the blonde haired beauty. Callie was planning on going home, opening a bottle of wine and sitting on the couch and moping for the evening. As stepped out of the main entrance and into the cold air, a shiver was sent through her body.
Arizona looked up from her position on the bench just as Callie walked out the main doors. She quickly got up and walked over to her. Callie saw the blonde coming towards her and sighed. She definitely didn’t want to have to deal with this right now.
“What is it Arizona?” Callie snapped.
Arizona paused her movements for a second. She took a deep breath and moved closer to Callie. “It’s not a date.” She snapped back.
Callie just shook her head. “Whatever.” Callie said as she started to walk away. This time Arizona blocked her exit. “Move Arizona” Callie demanded.
“No” Arizona yelled. “I’m not moving, because YOU got it wrong.” She sighed out aggravated by this situation. “Yes I have plans. But it’s not a date.” She looked at Callie who was now looking at the ground. She placed her hand on Callie’s arm. “Callie, I’m having dinner with my Parents.” Arizona told her softly.
Callie’s head shot up when she heard what Arizona said. “Your parents?” Callie asked.
Arizona nodded. “They flew in this morning. They’re here for one night” Arizona added.
A small smile spread across Callie’s face. “So you’re not dating?” She asked hopeful.
Arizona laughed, before answering. “Yes I’m dating” Arizona grinned.
Callie’s smile dropped again. Arizona moved closer to Callie and took hand hers. “At least I'm hope I'm dating." She said, looking Callie in the eyes. "I thought that I was dating you, Calliope.” She added giving Callie’s hands a squeeze.
Callie couldn’t help but grin at that statement. “I’m so sorry, I'm an idiot; I jumped to the wrong conclusion.” Callie said a little embarrassed.
Arizona smiled. “It’s ok, I should have just said I had plans with my parents straight away. So am I?” She asked. Callie looked confused.
“Dating you?” Arizona emphasized.
Callie laughed and closed the gap between them and kissed her. “I think we’re past the ‘dating’ phase don’t you?” Callie asked once she’d pulled back from the kiss smiling, the only thing Arizona could do in response was grin like and idiot and nod. She leaned back in and kissed her again.
“Ari?”
Arizona and Callie pulled away from each other and turned towards the direction of the voice. Arizona’s face broke into a bright smile. “Mum.” She exclaimed before running over and hugging her. Arizona’s mum held her tightly and looked over her shoulder at Callie.
“Arizona. Please tell me that’s Callie, and not some rebound girl.” Her mother inquired. Arizona giggled at her.
“Yes, mum, that's Callie” Arizona replied, before taking her hand and walking back towards Callie with a smile on her face. “Calliope, this is my mother Anne Robbins. Mum this is Callie.” She introduced.
Callie smiled sweetly and held out her hand. “It’s a pleasure to finally meet you Mrs Robbins.” Callie greeted.
Arizona’s mum dismissed Callie hand. “Please call me Anne.” She told her before hugging Callie. Callie smiled and returned the hug, looking at Arizona who was now grinning from ear to ear.
“Anne.” Callie smiled when they pulled back from the hug. Arizona walked over to Callie's side and held her hand. Anne’s gaze followed the action and she gave Arizona a confused look but smiled.
“Where’s Dad. I thought he was coming too?” Arizona asked trying to distract her mother.
Anne looked back up at the girls. “He’s parking the car.” She said, before scrutinizing both girls. “You back together?” She inquired.
Callie looked at Arizona, who in turn looked at her. They smiled at each other before turning back to the questioning woman in front of them. “We’re working on it.” Arizona replied with a grin on her face.
Arizona’s mother took in a deep breath before responding. “Well you better work hard Ari; I’ve not seen that sparkle in your eyes since before.” She left the sentence hanging there, all three of them knowing what she was going to say.
Callie tightened her grip on Arizona’s hand trying to comfort her. She knew how much pain talking about her brother caused her. “Don’t worry Mrs- Anne, I don’t plan on letting her get away again. She can run, but she can’t hide.” Callie joked.
Arizona smiled and let go of Callie’s hand to wrap the arm around her waist and hold her close. Anne smiled at the scene in front of her. She didn’t know the issues behind her daughters break up; she just hoped they could work past it and move on.
Arizona looked past her mum and saw her dad walking over towards them. “Dad!” Arizona squealed and ran over to him hugging him. He smiled at her and returned the hug; his gaze falling just beyond her shoulder, to the woman stood near his wife. Arizona pulled out of the hug and grabbed his arm and pulled him towards Callie and her mum. “I have someone I want you to meet, be nice.” She told him.
Once they reached the other two, Arizona took her spot next to Callie and held her hand again, giving her a reassuring squeeze. “Dad, this is Callie.” She directed to her dad. She turned her head slightly to Callie. “Calliope this is my father, Colonel Daniel Robbins.” She smiled
Callie once again reached out her hand towards the solid man standing in front of her, and offered one of her sweet smiles. “Nice to meet you Sir” She said. He took the hand and gave it a firm shake and gave a nod of his head.
He looked at Arizona then back to Callie. “You two back together now Ari?” He asked concern evident in his voice. Arizona nodded her head in response. “Are you sure about this?” He asked sternly. Arizona was shocked she didn’t expect this from her father.
“I’m more than sure dad.” She responded holding onto Callie’s hand tighter; Callie ran her finger over the back of Arizona’s hand softly giving her reassurance.
“She broke your heart all of 3 weeks ago.” He stated.
Arizona sighed and let go of Callie’s hand before stepping forward towards her dad. “I broke her heart. I couldn’t give her what she needed, so I broke her heart.” She told him.
He gave her a skeptical look. “You were heartbroken though Ari. You cried on the phone to me and your mother for hours.” He said glaring at Callie.
Arizona took a deep breath. “Please don’t look down on Calliope, I was emotion, I was upset and hurting. This is the woman I love, and I couldn’t give her what she wanted. Don’t blame her, I caused the pain myself.” She explained. She was about to continue when she felt a hand on her back, she instantly relaxed.
Callie rubbed Arizona’s back softly, calming Arizona down. “Sir, I did break her heart. We broke each other’s heart. There was a moment there, where we couldn’t agree on what we wanted for the future. So we thought the smart, sensible, mature thing to do, would be to let each other go. It didn’t work like that. I couldn’t stay away from your daughter. I love her, Sir. And I don’t plan on breaking her heart again.” She finished before taking Arizona’s hand in hers.
He looked over both women before Arizona spoke again. She knew if she didn’t explain everything he’d keep interrogating them. “We couldn’t agree on having kids.” She said softly. Her parents knew about her decision and had come to terms with it years ago, she knew they weren’t happy about it, but they accepted it.
Anne and Daniel stood there is shock. They hadn’t expected this to be the reason behind the break up. They’d thought possible outside factors were to blame, possibly another person.
“You still don’t want kids?” Anne asked the hurt evident in her voice.
Arizona sighed and looked down at the ground.
“I thought you might have changed your mind after Danny.” Her mother added.
Callie could see how upset this was making Arizona; before anyone else could talk she spoke up. “With all due respect, it’s completely up to Arizona on whether she wants children. As much as I want to have a family with her, she can’t change her mind based on the fact that I want kids, or that you want grandkids. If she ever does want a kid, that’s a decision she has to make without the added pressure. And if she doesn’t want kids, I’m still going to be here with her, because I love her. We’ll still be a family, just with dogs and chickens.” Callie said.
Arizona let out a small laugh, a tear running down her face, she looked at Callie and smiled before mouthing ‘Thank you’ to her. Callie smiled back and wrapped an arm protectively around her.
Colonel Robbins stood there for a second before looking at his wife and then his daughter. “I’d like to apologize Callie. I shouldn’t have been so rude to assume that you were to blam-“
“No one’s to blame Sir. Neither of us is in the wrong” She cut him off.
He smiled at her. “I know that, I’m just apologizing for assuming you did something that caused this. Arizona’s my little girl, and when all she could do was cry on the phone, without an explanation apart from you broke up, we jumped to the worst conclusion about you. I now see that I’m wrong.” He said smiling at her.
Callie smiled back. “It’s ok.”
“Join us for dinner?” Anne asked from her position next to her husband. Callie looked at Arizona who was smiling at her.
“I’d love to.” Callie replied, running her hand over Arizona’s hip.
Arizona leaned in and kissed Callie’s cheek and whispered. “Thank you, I love you too.” Both girls smiled at each other.
“Well we should be off. We have reservations for 6pm, we don’t want to be late.” Daniel said.
Just as they were about to leave Callie’s pager beeped. She sighed and looked at it, she looked at Arizona. “911, my patient that I operated on earlier. I’m sorry I have to go.” She told her regretfully. Arizona pouted but nodded in response.
Callie turned back to Arizona’s parents. “I’m so sorry, I’m going to have to miss out on dinner, I have an emergency. It was really great to meet you. I hope you enjoy your stay.” She said quickly before turning back to Arizona and giving her a quick kiss. “Call me tonight or even better come over.” She whispered into Arizona’s ear before she walked away.
Arizona turned back to her parents. She was grinning from ear to ear, she sighed before walking towards them. “Let’s go eat. I’m starved.” She said wrapping an arm around both of them and walking towards the parking lot.
