babyfics: NO! unless their rec'ed and cool like turn and face the strain. but otherwise: bleh!
srsly people. most of the ships i'm into (jack/sam, weir/shepperd, adama/roslin, for nostalgic reasons janeway/chakotay, on occasions picard/crusher and the awesome mulder/scully), the people involved are in (or reaching) their forties. for the women, that means they might have slight problems with getting pregnant, or they have already gone through the entire process, mentally, of realizing kids might not happen. and a few of them might have made the choice not to have kids. i honestly beleive there are women who does not want kids. yes, occasionally they might feel they miss them, but just like there's men who doesn't want them, i think there's women who chooses not to become mums. i kinda think laura roslin is one of them.
and then there's the fact that in most of my ship, the people involved cannot be involved, ifyaknowwhatimean. like sam and jack, the rules of the US Air Force says big no no to them having a relationship (at least in the first seasons), so her getting pregnant will not be a huge happy happening. which most fanfic writers seems to think/ hope for.
or we have john and elizabeth, kinda far from earth, kinda dangerous mission, not really the right place for toddlers. i mean, you don't send pregnant soldiers to Afghanistan or Kosovo, because it's too dangerous. i seriously doubt john and liz would be allowed to raise a little family on Atlantis.
but i think what i dislike the most is the entire fluff-ness of baby-fics. oh, don't get me wrong, i love fluff, just not mixed with babies! and not with happily-ever-afters that just won't happen. please, involve some kind realism in the fic. and just don't have the base/ship's doctor gong "congratulation!" to the woman when Teh Pregnancy is discovered! please! Fraiser/Carson/The Doctor would be smarter than that.
the only otp in which the entire baby-thingy worked out was mulder/scully, but then we don't really know how william was conceived, how much The Aliens were involved, and well, she couldn't really keep him.
