Will tugged at his mother’s hand and said, “Come on, come on…” But she didn’t move. “Mummy!” She looked asleep. Why didn’t she move? This was the planet where he’d been born, and they always came here to see his godparents. Where were they?
“Lyra?” He found his godmother’s rucksack on the floor. That’s when he heard the men that had come through the gate.
“There’s a boy here!” a man yelled. “But it looks like we finally got the SG-team!”
And Will looked from them to Lyra’s rucksack and back again, and he didn’t hear a word they said.
