The five paragraph essay is bullshit.
That said, I think I got the highest score in the class tonight, which is kinda nice. Would have been higher but I left out the essay map, because 1) I never learned to do essay maps and consequently didn't know what one was, 2) He didn't explain them, and 3) I didn't need one. I mean, 10 for subject presentation, 10 for sentence structure, what else matters? I said it convincingly and said it well and did it within the space constraints. Mission accomplished.
That said, he told Chris that he had come up with the most interesting/original thesis of the class, and that's definitely cool.
Something's happened to country music in the ten years since I last paid attention to it. It underwent some kind of genetic fusion with rock and roll... and the product is pretty groovy. Disquieting.
