We were raised to believe we've got the future in our hands, that the world was ours for the taking. For many years, this was ingrained into your system and you're out there believing this Credo, this life force that becomes your very soul and being. This drives you to living on and making it at the end of the day, thinking this was the way to fulfill this destiny you so believed was yours.
Suddenly one day, you are shot out into the real world, realizing that you don't know much. Where the future would lead you is still unknown, that the world is not quite yours for the taking. You try on new things, it is understandable. It is a stepping stone. You gotta work hard to earn a place and name for yourself. But all you will ever seem to be (at least for that time being) is what work you land up in. People think highly of you as a manager, or perhaps, a supervisor. But there are people out there who may be better than you. But that doesn't matter because it is YOU who landed on that job. It is YOU who has got that position. Everyone else falls in the background.
As for you, o Innocent Wanderer, your ideals and dreams are failed to be seen. You will be quiet at best and doomed at worst. You are just an ordinary worker, earning an ordinary wage, in a not-so-very ordinary company, mingling with pretty much ordinary people. They look at you in that sideways-all-knowing fashion, not because of where you came from, but because of what you are now. How's that for doing your dirty work?
Or is this all in your head?
