[Recs] HP: Harry/Draco

Nov 30, 2009 10:52

Months ago, it came as a surprise when I found myself falling, and falling, and falling for Harry/Draco. I think I'm still waiting for the day when I wake up and realize it's all just a passing fancy, like some of the other pairings I've gone through. That hasn't happened yet, and I'm beginning to see that, whether or not it's a passing fancy, it's a pairing well worth following, if the great fics (and art!) that it has to offer are anything to go by.

I'm going to have to make one neat rec list for myself sometime soon, because I'm finding more and more fics that just completely blow me away that I want to get back to again (and sometimes can't find). Reading H/D is just one big tangle of emotions, it's heartbreaking at times, or emotionally satisfying, or even just gut-wrenchingly painful. It's just... guh. I'm lost, totally. Can't you tell?

Anyway, what prompted this is I read one fic that I totally loved. It has a touch of infidelity issue (although that's not really the main thing), and made me remember two others that I absolutely adored. So before I lose them, I'll place them here.

The Magician's Gifts by rurounihime
Summary: Harry's crisis is only the beginning of his journey.
Notes: The relationship development was so nicely executed, subtle and gradual, and that is probably what stayed with me for a long while, that and their confrontation. I really, really, really love it and their confrontation is just heartbreaking. Harry's confusion is so very... human. He is flawed and not perfect and makes mistakes, and he loves, and loves truly and sincerely. The hopeful ending is just lovely.

The Great Divide by scarlet_malfoy
Summary: If one has wavering faith, can one still have unwavering hope? A tale of beginnings and endings, of getting to the bottom of what one can live with, what one can merely endure… and what one cannot live without.
Notes: This is just great. Epilogue-compliant, and more than a touch of infidelity, but it was deftly handled. It's great, and it just hurts, but I'm glad it doesn't end on that note, though. I love the garbage can scene, and that really made me fall in love with this fic, the whole confusion and hesitation in that scene is just perfect.

On One's Knees by pir8fancier
Summary: Five years after the final battle at Hogwarts, Draco Malfoy has been paroled from Azkaban and works nights as a janitor at The Daily Prophet. Harry Potter, recently married to Ginny Weasley, is training as a Healer at St. Mungo's. One wastebasket=one head injury=our story.
Notes: OMG. I. Am. Speechless. Read this, and read this now, even though you're not an H/D shipper. I just love Draco.

I am surprised I still managed to be a tiny bit coherent at least, because H/D fics that totally get me turns me into a blubbering mess of a reader. December's coming and I can't wait for hd_holidays to start because there are so many great offerings there always.

And maybe I'll have an art rec next time, but in the meantime, check out lillithium , when I finally decided to have at least an h/d icon, where else to look but to such talented artist. Like fics, her H/D art just leaves me speechless.

H/D shipper or not, you really should check them out. They're great. On another note, I have a list of fics to finish that's been sitting on my computer for who knows how long. I'm planning to finish at least two short ones before tackling that school/AU 1x4 fic that suddenly popped out of nowhere. Maybe I'll finish the draft over the holidays, if I'm lucky. :P
