I'm minding my own business, digging up scrap in the Bikanel desert for the Al Bhed, when a giant purple arrow shows-up on the radar, zooms right over to me, and before I know it I'm in battle with some sort of giant Egyptian god. It was called an Angry "Something" - I forget what exactly. Whatever it was, it could probably have used the Emerald Weapon as a bath toy. I think, okay, I'm cool, I just happen to have recently picked up one of the uber-dresses for my girls, so I switch Paine into the Full Throttle. Ha, I think, Bring it on! We get to exchange like 3 blows before the bastard pulls out a move called "Unnatural Selection" which simply turns out to be a good ol' Master Chupon style battle expulsion move. That's it, before I even have time to get a good look at this random rare encounter, it's already over! At least he could've killed me, but no, he just sneezed at me! Argh!
An hour or so later, I'm wandering around the Calm Lands, which despite becoming some sort of carnival still has random monster encounters... and I'm attacked by a giant deadly bubble. This thing murdered me in 5 turns, despite my girls being level 20! I had just figured out what the trick to fighting him was too... WTF is with these rare monster encounters, Square? I feel like I'm playing Suikoden III again, where I was killed in my VERY FIRST ENCOUNTER when I was jumped by the grandaddy Holly Tree of Death.
So like, FFX-2 has had it's ups & downs. I'll try to post a decent report as I finish each chapter. Yes, that's right, I'm level 20 and I've been playing for 15 hours, but I still haven't finished Chapter 1. Why? Because I'm a total completion freak going for 100% who doesn't intend to play this game twice. Right now I'll just say that Sphere Break is the lamest mini-game ever and I find it absolutely hilarious that the girl in charge of the Bikanel digging project has the same NPC body that the Al Bhed girl on my old FFX Blitzball team did.
In other news, it is an unnatural 60 degrees right now and a huge storm seems to be rolling in...
