wow. The huge skylift that has been going on all morning is really impressive.
I'm fascinated by helicopters anyway, but this operation is truly something. There was a constant stream of choppers landing and taking off at the dome in NO. At one point a videographer panned up to show the formation of these things just hanging in the air with military disciplined order. (OH my GOD, more video: The rescue choppers are refueling in mid air to save time.)
I just can't fathom. For those of you who have ever tried to herd 4 or 5 friends to a dinner party, a dozen or two people to a surprise party, organized a small fund drive, a car wash, or a Samhain gathering; can you imagine what it takes to get the hundreds of people involved all to move to a different state? Scores of multi-million dollar helicopters, highly-trained pilots, maintenance workers (with their tools), fuel supply teams (and the thousands and thousands of gallons of jet fuel), the civilian medics and EMTs, ground troops to set up landing zones and provide security. It boggles my mind.
