I hit a concrete pillar yesterday and sheared off a brake caliper which means new front forks-more expense and the loss of the bike for several days!
I had eventually fitted the toeclips that I bought weeks ago. Getting my feet out is not the problem I discovered, getting them in is. I was struggling to do just that when I veered towards a large fat concrete post, designed to stop cars getting on to the bike path and unfortunately I didn't quite miss it.
I was only a couple of hundred yards from home so I trudged back with it and did three
exercise circuits instead of the planned ride. Boring but effective, I decided. I hurt more after that then I did after a thirty mile ride. I managed two circuits this morning before taking my bike to the shop. I bought snazzy new shorts, a helmet and goggles with five different colour lenses as my birthday presents while I was there.
The fundraising is going well and as I write this I'm less than £100 short of my target. I've exploited three more networks: former colleagues I'm in touch with through
Linkedin and that's brought in one donation so far. Old school friends have ben really generous too. Now I'm getting support from the parishes where my wife is currently on placement as part of her ordination training. We've still to go for my wife and my daughter's places of work.
