i realized today after some wikipedia research that this bullshit movement that is enveloping and disheartening average people our age is a revival of dandyism:
A dandy is a man who places particular importance upon physical appearance, refined language, and leisurely hobbies. Historically, especially in late 18th- and early 19th-century Britain, a dandy, who was self-made, often strove to imitate an aristocratic style of life despite coming from a middle-class background. Dandyism is a cult, or type of religion; and way of life, which these gentlemen solely placed emphasis on the way they look and making themselves an artistic masterpiece.
however, today's dandyism splinters from the original movement in one way. today, indie rock stars, d.j.s and hip directors are considered the "heros" of the middle-class and are emulated instead of the aristocracy.
