hey, hi, ugh

May 26-May 30 in London with klia. Hadn't been there since 1996 and gosh, it's changed. Strange visit for several reasons but of the good: saw Greenwich for the first time and watched QI as much as possible. Walked across the Millennium Bridge, which was actually fun.

May 31-June 9 in France with klia and talking_sock. First visit. Loved Brittany. Loved Paris. Loved the food. OMG, I miss the food.

June 11 returned to work one day after layoffs were announced. My assistant's position has been eliminated but he may take another job at a lesser grade elsewhere. The other layoff in our unit was a very nice man who's worked there for 7 years, who was the computer expert, and who was one of the very few co-workers I've had who made me smile because he was optimistic, courteous, and enjoyed what he did. I will truly miss him.

(Who will do my assistant's work now? Gee, take a guess.)

June 12 woke up and realized I was really sick. Missed the good-bye lunch our unit had for the laid-off co-workers, and I regret that, though giving them evil flu germs as a departing gift was probably not a good idea.

June 13 woke up and realized I was really, really sick. It may be part of the pandemic, or may be ordinary seasonal flu, but whatever it is, it's cruddy. After lying around in misery for most of the day, I turned on the computer and realized I felt marginally better sitting up. So I reached the limits of /friends?skip= on LJ and DW, and it's all kind of a blur, but my friends are still around, still doing stuff, there are still fandoms, yay.

Now I'm sweating a lot. Maybe I'm feverish. The cats have taken over my place on the sofa, and I have a bunch of updates my computer is nagging me to install. A week ago I was in Paris, not sick, and eating delicious food. C'est la vie.
