Warning : complex situation, ambiguities, figurative words, bad English. IN THIS CHAPTER, YOU’LL FIND A LOT OF QUESTIONS. If you don’t like it, you can skip it to the last part of this chapter.
Disclaimer : I don’t own the boys. They belong to themselves. The bands belong to their company. I adapted the main idea of the story from CLAMPS’s CARD CAPTOR SAKURA. I only fitted the main idea of the story with new settings and - of course - new characters. That’s all.
Summary : those powers have ‘minds’. ‘They’ can think. They rebelled. They wanted to be free, yet they need humans to be their host. Not all the people were able to bear such a power. Several of those people turned mad and became a menace to the world. That is what Aoi had to deal with. As some kind of guardian, Kouyou and Takashima are there to help Aoi whenever the boy needs them… or was it the contrary?
Comment : Aoi will face The High Priestess here! Hope you enjoy this chapter. Happy reading!
Chapter 00. Prologue: Introduction 01. Clues
I looked at the entrance door again. I took a deep breath before exhales it slowly. “You just have to answer the question, Aoi,” I’m convincing myself, whispering. “You just have to answer…”
Kouyou was right. It’s easier to face The Magician than The High Priestess. At least, I just have to use few portion of my brain and the rest I can use my power to deal with The Magician. But this one, I have to use a vast portion of my brain. My power? I think I only need it to run.
Arcanas powers are truly unpredictable.
I walked to the unlatched entrance door and opened it. When I entered the building, suddenly, the door behind me was latched again. I’m shock. I immediately turned and grabbed the door handle. When I tried to open it, the voice was calling me again.
“There’s no use in trying to open it. I locked it from here,” said the voice.
I looked to the ceiling above me. I think the voice was from somewhere up there. But the question is; what the voice wants from me?
I looked to my surroundings. There are three walls each at my right, left, and in front of me. I supposed that the walls weren’t there at the beginning. The voice was the one who created the wall like what she did before between me, Kouyou and Takashima. Maybe, just maybe, I can open another wall if I can give the right answer the next time she asked me another question.
“It rounds but it also smiles. It’s bright, but sometimes it can die. When its source moves upon IT upon you, it turned black. From heaven, it’s the closest to you.”
“What..!?” I asked whispering. Kouyou, Takashima, if only you guys were here…
“Answer it, Young man.”
“Round… smile… bright, but it can die… when the source moves, it turned black. It’s the closest to me from heaven…” I tried to repeat the clues, still whispering. “Shit… what the heck was that…?”
“You have so little time, Young man…” As the word said it, the wall around me got narrower.
I opened my mouth, ready to say any curse passed in my mind. But I immediately cover my mouth with my hand. I can’t say anything, can I? The voice probably will take it as an answer, and I don’t know what will happen to me.
Think, Aoi. Think. It’s a round thing. A ball is round. But a ball can’t smile. So it’s not a ball. It’s bright and sometimes it can die. What? A candle? But a candle is a tube-shaped thing. And how supposed a candle smiles anyway? And it has some kind of source. Source of what? Source of… round? No. Source of its smile? What was it? Something can smile, but round; and it can turn black when the source moves upon it… upon me… the closest to me from heaven.
Heaven… sky… closest to me from the sky…
It’s bright… it can smile… it’s a round… it can die… it turned black… it has a source...
It’s a…
“Moon! Full moon! Crescent moon! Lunar eclipse!” I said loudly.
There, the wall at my right was moving upward and opened another path. I think I gave the right answer, didn’t I? I walked pass it. Again, the wall was coming back down and closed the path behind me. Guess I really can’t go back, aye? I walked until the end of the corridor and face other walls.
“I have a poem for you, Young man…”
“What..?” I don’t like this.
“Similar teams with two colors…
Balance but kill each other…
The fewer is not always loser…
Never let your dear one get captured.”
I repeated the clues inside my head. Similar teams with two colors. It’s kind of ambiguous, isn’t it? Was it two colors of a team, or was it two teams with two different colors? Balance. Similar. The teams were actually having the same power, right? They killed each other means we’re not talking about sports here. Sports won’t have to kill each other, right? Is it war?
The fewer is not always loser. But she said earlier that the teams are balanced. So, one of them should kill the other in order to make the number reduced. A war? Between who?
Again, the walls around me are getting narrowed.
“Fuck….” I whispered. Yeah, fuck this. I’ve never good at war, or history, or something like that. As far as I know, to win a war, we need a great number of troops, right? And I’ve never heard about a war with the same number from both sides. But... dang it… Kouyou, Takashima, if you guys faced these kinds of things, what will you guys do? If someone wanted to win the war… the only way to win a war with lesser number of troops is with…
Strategy…
It’s… no… wait…
Two colors? Similar team? It’s balance because they have the same “troops”. They have to kill each other to win the game. It’s not a war. The dear one shouldn’t get captured. “The dear one” means something you have to protect. And to win it, we need a strategy. It’s a game indeed. And yes, it could be a sport too.
“A chess!” I answered.
The wall in front of me was moving upward. Bingo. I don’t know whether this is the right time to think about it or not, but I felt proud of myself about this.
After the wall in front of me disappeared, I saw a stair. The voice wanted me to go upstairs. I walked and get myself to the highest step of the stairs. But another wall blocked my way.
“You can’t see it, but it can make you want to see. You can’t hear it, but you can find it by hearing it. You can tell about it but you can’t taste it. With it, you’ll find out what you smell.”
If I can die know I would love to do it. I mean come on, Man. What do you expect from those kinds of clues? It’s so full of ambiguities. It can be anything!
Or… maybe it can be just one thing. But I think I really need a lot of time to figure it out.
You can’t see it. It’s probably an air. But an air can’t make you want to see anything. Do I really want to see the shape of an air? OK. I guess my mind is starting to make a fool on me too. The next clue is about hearings. I can’t hear it, but I can find it by hearing it. WHAT’S THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN!? It’s a contrary one to another!
“Waa!” I accidentally yelled when I felt the stairs that I stepped onto was getting slippery. What now!? Was it because I’m taking too much time to answer!? But I really don’t know the answer! Is she crazy!?
Shit. OK. Focus. I can tell about it but I can’t taste it. It’s not a food of course; because I can still see the shape of a food, right? It’s not a food, not a wind, BUT it can make me find out what I smell.
What. The. Heck. Is. It.
It can make me want to see. What I want to see at the moment? I want to see Kouyou. I want to see Takashima. I want to see them. I want to get out from this place. But I have to deal with this puzzles or quizzes in order to get out from here. But she keeps giving these ridiculous questions.
Questions. Clues. I can’t hear it means it’s not a sound nor a voice. But I can find it by hearing it. Hearing about it, I presumed.
Suddenly the stairs were getting more slippery and I almost fell if only I didn’t catch the banister.
“Answer, Young man…” said the voice. “Or you will never be able to see your dearest friend…”
“Think, Aoi, think..!” I cursed with a whisper, still trying to get a hold of the banister. With this condition, it will be hard for me to think. Fuck all of this questions and puzzles. Fuck my brain that didn’t have too much knowledge about these kinds of things.
What?
“A KNOWLEDGE!!” I yelled in frustration.
Slowly, the stairs got back to normal, and I can stand without having any feeling to fall. The wall in front of me then moving upward and I can see the second floor of this building.
I hurriedly walked to that floor and the wall behind me closing the path behind me. I panted like crazy. Can you believe it? I don’t know how many questions left before I have to deal with something I don’t know.
“There are few rooms in this floor…” said the voice. “Which do you think I belong to?”
I looked to each room in that corridor. From the small board on above each door, I know that this floor is the second year classes. I looked into each window of the classes. There are six classes all. There’s no special thing in each class. They are all the same.
I don’t know why, but I have the feeling that, “You don’t belong to any room here…”
It shocked me when suddenly a door behind me was opened and make a loud thud. I walked fast into the room. It’s class 2-4. I entered the room, but this time, the door behind me didn’t closed.
“Find something for me inside the room, and bring it to me…”
That’s all?
“In one minute.”
Shit.
I ran inside the room, looking at every table, every chair, every window to find the ‘something’ she wants. She didn’t give any clue this time, which means I have to find it by myself, and I feel like so fucked up.
Something that related to her. A girl. A divine girl. A girl with pride. A smart girl. A book?
No, there’s no book left in this class. It’s not a book.
“Forty five seconds left…”
What did she ask about before? A moon, chess, and knowledge. Yes, right. Those three. And I’m dead. How could I find something related to those three!?
“Thirty five seconds left…”
“Eh..?” There, on the floor, at the back corner of the room, I saw a white transparent queen pawn. It’s so beautiful. It has some kind of tiny red stones attached around it. It’s like a crystal.
“Twenty-five seconds left…”
I took the queen pawn and ran to the opened door. In the corridor I saw a wall moving upward at my right. I ran to that direction and I found another stairs. It leaded me to the third floor. I ran; I jumped two steps at a time to get to the third floor faster. That floor was the highest floor if I’m not mistaken.
There. There she was. I was panting hard when I saw her. She has a reddish brunette hair, just like Kouyou. Her hair was straight but curled beautifully at the lower part. She has a long beautiful hair. She was still in her school uniform when I saw her. So this is the girl that got possessed by The High Priestess power? This is the girl that possessed by one of The Arcana Power?
“Good timing…” she said. So, all of this time, she was the one who gave me all of those questions and clues. “I really wanted to give you another questions. But I think you’re better than just some puzzles…”
I really wanted to answer her. But I’m scared that I’m still in her game.
“Oh, don’t worry. You can say something If you want.” She walked and get closer to me. “The game was over actually…”
“Really?” I asked.
She nodded and smiled. “Can I have that?” she asked as she pointed to the queen pawn in my hand.
“Oh! Yeah, of course…” I said and giving the queen pawn to her. “It’s beautiful…”
“Thank you…” She received the pawn. “Thank you for bringing it back to me and thank you for the compliment.” She smiled.
“It’s… very important to you, I guess…”
“Before that…” She looked right through my eyes. “Is there something you want me to do for you now?”
It’s the same question like The Magician asked me after I won over him. “Can I… no… can you let my two friends in?”
“Here?” she asked. I nodded. She sighed. “Don’t you have any other request? I can give you a lot of money if you ask. Just ask me.”
“That’s intriguing… but that’s not what I want…”
“Do I have to let them in here?”
“Yes, please.”
She sighed again. “Oh, well. I can’t do anything else, can I?” She clicked her fingers, and suddenly I felt some tremor inside the building.
“W-what are you doing?”
“Cast off the entire labyrinth I made inside this building…”
Few minutes later I heard Takashima’s voice. “Oooh, myyy Daaarliiing~” He called, and I had some big Goosebumps. Five, four, three, two, one, and… “Are you okay, Darling?!” Takashima hugged me. “Did she bite you!?” Takashima held both of my cheeks. “Tickled you!?” He tickled me. “Harassed you!?” He touched my butt. “She didn’t do anything to you right, Darling?! Darling! Say something! No!! Did she cut your tongue!? OH, nooooooooooo!!” And Takashima cried.
“Takashima…” Kouyou called. “I… think… Aoi-san is okay here…”
Takashima looked at me and I show him my tongue. My undamaged tongue.
“Oh, my. It’s so cute. Can I bite it?” Takashima asked. I slapped him. “MY DARLING, WHYYYYYYY!?!?!”
“You’ve changed,” said the girl. She put her folded arms in front of her body. “I didn’t expect that I will see you this way, Uruha…”
“Uruha..?” I asked; confused.
“Enough, Joan…” said Kouyou. “You already feel the freedom, right? Now, it’s time for you to get back to where you belong…”
The girl smiled a sad smile. “You’re so arrogant. Is this why you changed?”
“It’s none of your business…”
Kouyou put his opened palm in front of the girls face. The girl just closed her eyes when some kind of haze vaporized from her body. From beside me, Takashima took a blank card from his pocket and throw the card above the girl. The card then absorbed the haze. Kouyou alacrity caught the girl when she fell unconscious. I saw when the card done in absorbing all the haze, and it fly back to Takashima. I looked at the card in his hand.
“The High Priestess…” Takashima said in a low voice.
“Come on…” said Kouyou as he took the girl in his arms. “We have to get out from here before we get caught…”
“By whom?” I asked.
“Hey, Darling… you see that?” Takashima said as he pointed out of the window. I saw a bright sun creeping up from the east.
“Oh no…” I said warily.
“Oh yes… that’s why we have to get out of here!” And the three of us run out of the building.

That afternoon, I got back to work in the café. There, I saw these two men and girl sipping each of their drinks. The three of them put each of their glass on the table, and sigh happily together. Well, don’t ask me how to describe ‘happiness’ in Kouyou’s plain expression. I just know it.
The two men are Kouyou and Takashima. Yes, you’re right. And the girl is? She was the girl that possessed with The High Priestess power last night. Her name is Kanon Wakeshima, and she was in her third year in her school. She asked us what happened to her when she got conscious and Takashima told her everything without any hesitation.
“The tea is sooo nice!” Kanon said after sipping her tea again.
I folded my arms. “What…are you doing here?”
“Sipping my tea?” The girl looked at me happily.
“Shouldn’t you be at school right now?”
She shook her head. “No. I will be very late if I have to attend school right now.”
I rolled my eyes.
“Let her stay here for today, Darling,” said Takashima. “I think she’s not as bad as I thought before.”
“Hey, hey, hey! So you guys have some kind of magical power?” she asked cheerfully with a whisper.
“Kind of…” Takashima said as he fixed his sunglasses.
Kanon squealed. “Woohoo! I got some new cool friends! Can I introduce you guys to my friends at school one day? Or was this some kind of secret mission that you can’t tell to anyone?”
“It’s a secret,” Kouyou said coldly.
“OK! Roger that! I understand! I won’t tell anyone!” Kanon put her hand on her forehead like a salute position.
Then I heard someone opened the café front door. “Welcome!” I said cheerfully. But it was just for mere moment. I lost my smile as I saw him in front of me. It was Reita, the one who possessed by The Magician power few days ago.
“Hi!” he greeted cheerfully.
I rolled my eyes and went back to the kitchen at the back of the café. Guess that my life will be a lot noisier than usual.
But I like it…
