fan fiction: Finding Home Epilogue

May 02, 2019 20:18

Thank  you so much if you're still reading! (I started this thing in 2016. It  was never supposed to take this long. If you're still here, you deserve  all the cookies.) This is the end. Superfluous, probably, but it pleased  me to have kind of a "bookend" to the prologue. And since I'm the  writer... ;)

Twitter seems fairly active for the Stargate fandom. Other fandoms have Facebook groups (and Facebook has some fan fiction writing groups as well if you are interested in joining those. Some are for writing for specific fandoms or pairings. There's one that for all Ao3 writers and one for FFN writers. The group for Ao3 writers is very active.

Thank you again for your kind words. I am truly glad that you enjoyed this story so much. I love Vala, and I love the idea of the team being a family. I am a hardcore D/V shipper, but team as family will almost always show up in my stories as well.

I am certainly flattered that I might have inspired you in some way. May I ask how you intend to use my story--what elements? I'm not asking you to divulge major plot points (especially if you are more "pantser" than "plotter" and don't know those yet)--more just trying to ascertain what you plan to use from my story and where it might diverge from there. If it's something generic like "Vala is separated from the team" or "Vala lives in New York," I have no issue at all. More specific details I would want to discuss. I am definitely flattered and very intrigued. I would be interested to see where a different writer might take a similar premise. I'd just maybe like a bit more to go on, if that makes sense?

Thank you again. Seriously. You have made my week. :) All the best to you.

Ah! I'm not a twitter user, and I've found some LJ writing groups I'm enjoying--I just didn't know if there were pockets of active Stargate fic writers lying around. I've missed the heyday of Stargate fandom, I know--but I wasn't sure if there were still active discussions going on somewhere. Maybe I should google to find the twitter discussions, but I'm not sure if that will be my thing :-(

I was pretty much going to steal the premise of Vala sacrifices herself by hooking up with a former associate--but my take is darker, and doesn't involve the same kind of deception about having the team believe she's leaving willingly. It's more of an "'I'm right behind you" type escape. So not quite the same thing ... and I'm not yet sure if she'll be able to escape on her own (I do like an uber competent Vala, but I'm not sure how it will work with this particular premise) but yeah, it was more of a generic inspiration by the opening idea than anything like a re-write of your story if that makes sense. :-)

And thank you for still writing these types of stories! You made my week, so I'm glad I could return the favour!

If the LJ groups are still active, that's great. I loved LJ back in the day, when things were really hopping here. Such a great community. But so many have jumped ship--hard to find non-abandoned pages and communities now. :-/

Oh, your story idea sounds so good! I would love to read that! Good luck, and please let me know if you post--I am definitely intrigued. :)

If you are interested in the LJ places feel free to PM me I’m happy to share! Like you, I thought everyone had left LJ and tumblr etc never were the kind of home for me LJ was. I’m glad that there are still pockets where people are active and I’m enjoying finding them ...

If I post I hope you enjoy! When I read your opening I just had an idea of how badly that situation-being captured by slavers who know they are valuable-could go. I hate plotting so I’m trying to work all that out now ... Vala is the kind to be both self interested-she’s a survivor-but also sacrifices a lot for her friends. Daniel I think is just as selfish but in a different way and he comes across as more altruistic when he isn’t necessarily (or maybe I just haven’t watched enough to understand because I haven’t watched it all yet-I’ve mostly watched the last few seasons and some of the first couple). Anyway! I’m having fun :-). Thanks so much for the encouragement!
