The current Clarkesworld cover is AMAZING. There's also a story about FISH in the January/February issue of Weird Tales.
lisamantchev read it at the Weird Tales reading at Norwescon. It was a really weird story. This probably should be assumed based on the title of the magazine.
(I'm talking about "Landscape, with Fish" by Karen Heuler.)
James the fish has the white spots on his fins that I thought were ick once upon a time, but didn't kill him then. While I expressed a little minor worry that he was sick,
criada gave me an alternate theory.
"They're... mating pustules."
"What, on his fins?"
"Well, they're not sex organs, but... I don't know. I read it somewhere."
"Hm... I hope so. I'd much rather he be horny than dead."
James the fish has been following Helen the fish around the tank. This either means that a) we're right! About everything! We're always right! And she just magically happened to actually be a female fish. Against all the odds of me being able to actually guess the sex of a bloody goldfish.
or b) being as they're goldfish, he just happened to be following the other one around.
I imagine it occasionally gets very boring being a goldfish.
