I can't believe it, I have been down here for one month. Certain things are becoming slowly familiar, however I still feel like an outsider on several other things. I have decided that I should really try to join in some activities at church or some volunteer organization, that way I can meet more people and try to make some friends outside of work. It's not that I don't like the people that I live with in the IV or at work, it's just I would like to meet some people outside of the work place. Now to figure out how to join some organization.
Monday I went camping with two of the guys at the IV. Originally there was going to be more people but it ended up just being the three of us. It was fun, for some reason I feel that its easier talking to guys some of the time. Ok, its easier when I am not trying to flirt with them. But anyway, late in the evening all of us went fishing on Lake Barkley in this three person boat. It was tons of fun. One of the guys ended up hooking a red eared slider, which is a turtle. The turtle had eaten the bait and the hook. All of us felt really bad, because the hook ended up in the turtle's neck. We had to pry the turtle's mouth open to get the hook out so the turtle would be okay. On a funnier note, I ended up hitting on the guys with my bobber and fishing line a couple of times. No, I didn't do it on purpose. I was borrowing the other guy's extra fishing pole and wasn't really use to casting the line. Thus hitting the other guy. I felt bad, but it was kinda a way of flirting, I guess. Right before we ended the night, Tim (who is one of the guys, sorry for not mentioning their names) got a hit on his line. This fish started moving the boat when it tried to get away. Jason (the guy I kept hitting with the bobber) handed me the net to pick up the fish. I was all for it until I actually saw the catfish. Then I handed the net back to him and told him that he would have to get the fish out of the water. It was so big that I figured that I would either end up losing the catfish or falling in the water.
The night sky here is beautiful. Being away from any towns, you get the full effect of the stars. While camping you could even see the milkyway. Plus I saw several shotting stars, which I made several wishes. No, I can't anyone what wishes I made, because I would like them to come true at some point in time. Just seeing all the stars makes me really like being here. I can't wait for March. That is when star gazing is supposively the best. I also want to get a star map so that I can figure out the constellations (sp?). The one thing that I do know is that being this far south, you don't see the north star. I can find one of the dippers on the northern horizon, but not the one containing the north star.
I've done a little bit of Summer cleaning. What do I mean by that, you might ask. Well, I got rid of a few things belonging to the past that I really needed to let go of. The only thing that was bad was I had to throw the stuff away since I couldn't find any Goodwill stores. But it really didn't matter where the stuff went, they just needed to be gone. With this summer cleaning done, my mother is going to send me a package of some stuff that I forgot back home. Like my Carebear, I can't believe I forgot that. I did remember my blankie, which my grandmother gave me. I should have her send me more of my books since I can't get to the library too often. Oh, if I haven't told people, I actually have a house phone now and a new cell phone. The cell phone is throw Verizon, so if you are one of their customers you can call me anytime for free. If you don't, the best times are after 9pm on weekdays (Mon-Thurs) or starting 9pm on Friday to 11:59pm Sunday. I love free nights and weekends plus free verizon to verizon. I can't call long distance on my house phone unless I use a calling card. But can receive phone calls of any kind. If I miss your phone call, I am sorry but I will try to call you back either that day/night or the following day. Oh, if you don't have my cell phone or house phone just let me know.
