For akamine_chan's Snowflake Challenge.

Day 6
In your own space, rec at least three fanworks you thought you wouldn't like but did.

Let Not the Sun Go Down by lexicale (J2 AU)
Mpreg is the closest thing I have to a squick. But this 98k epic were-cat drama pulled me in and didn't let go. The emotions of the characters resonated with me, and the author's created a fabulous, intricate culture for the were-cats including religion and folklore. To me, this story stands with the best of feminist speculative fiction for it's subtextual exploration of gender through a boy raised as human who never quite fit in and discovers that he's a 'fertile', a were-cat capable of becoming pregnant and giving birth.

The Long Way Home by Morgan Dawn and Justine Bennett (post-apocalyptic dS Fraser/Vecchio) 87k
I am not a Fraser/Vecchio shipper. I won't go into my reasons here, unless someone wants to chat in comments. But this story problematized the HELL out of this relationship, before things started to fall into place, and I think that's what made it work for me. It's an amazing piece of post-apocalyptic story-telling, too. Warning: this goes to some pretty dark places. One particular scene, where Vecchio's idealism crashes head-long into Fraser's practicality (Yes, I do mean that way around.) was almost heart-stoppingly painful. I read this story FOUR YEARS ago, and I have tears in my eyes right now, thinking of it.

Without Packages, Boxes, or Bags (SPN, Sam/Dean, extreme underage)
So I'd been reading wincest, and then a few pre-series wincest, and then ... then I read THIS. Sam is 12. Yes, 12. And yet it's sweet, you know? They're trying to be a family here, around the holidays, and Dean's big brother urge to look out for Sam, to let him know that jerking off is totally normal, and he doesn't need to feel like a freak about it, slides into this total exhibitionistic hotness that Dean never really acknowledges.

Day 11
In your own space, ask for recs.

WEREWOLF FICS, please! Any fandom. Original fic. Hell, rec me good pro-fic, if you want. I'm trying to feed a plot-bunny, and I need to read stories that have excellent world or culture-building around werewolves, pack dynamics, etc. Also stories that do a great job of exploring a werewolf's POV would be nice. I'm open to any ratings and pairings.

Day 15
In your own space, share a favorite memory about fandom.

Just this past week, I got a response to a feedback I'd left on one of my favorite Yuletide stories, a really interesting Curse of Chalion fic that explored formerly-sainted Umegat. The author let me know that she had read, and loved, a Curse of Chalion fic I'd written two years ago for Yuletide. She'd never read the book, but she loved MY story so much that she signed up for the fandom for Yuleide. And when it was assigned to her she went out, read the source material, and wrote this spectacular story.

How awesome is that? Very, very awesome! That's what I love about fandom. We inspire each other.
