» History: The son of King Pellinore, Percival was the youngest of five brothers. Clearly favored by his mother, he spent much of his young life glued to her side, never too far from her skirts. Life was easy then in their forest lodging, away from poverty and evil and violence. But when Percival turned three, his father-king ordered his mother to take him away someplace safer, someplace secluded so that he would continue to never know the bloody ways of the world. In reality, he had done so only for their safety after having taken the life of King Lot of Lothian, sparking an angry fued that would no doubt lead to his death.

Percival would never see his father again, nor two of his eldest brothers, after they were all slain during his sixteen year exile with his mother. Only his brother Lamorak, now a Knight of the Round, remained.

His life took a significant turn at the age of nineteen. While he continued to live with his mother in the mountains, he came across a group of knights, who he mistakenly took for angels, not knowing what knights were. They made a deep and lasting impression on young Percival, who, immediately following their departure, hurried back to his mother to tell of his discovery. Hesitantly, she asked if he desired to be a knight, and when he expressed that very desire, she offered him a beautiful ring that she ordered him to pass on to his brother Lamorak, who he would undoubtedly meet once becoming a knight.

In Percival's eyes, to be a knight was to transcend all manner of nobility. They were gallant, powerful, and mighty. He longed to be a part of that on his journey toward Camelot, desperately hoping to come across it, when he encountered an enemy of the king one fine morning. A fight erupted when the armored man badmouthed the queen, and although Percy was at a terrible disadvantage, he managed to overcome his foe and slay him with his own lance.

The subsequent events were everything Percival hoped for. He was discovered by Arthur's knights, taken to the king's castle, and knighted for his noble deed. After meeting his brother Sir Lamorak for the first time in over a decade, he swore to himself that he would become a better knight before he would present the ring and reveal to his brother that they were tied by blood. Over the years, Percival made a name for himself with his strength and valor in the battlefield.

What occurred after his reveal to Lamorak of their kinship is unknown, but what is most important is that in every tale, Percival is tied in some way to the Holy Grail. Chrétien de Troyes wrote that Percival, on his way home from visiting his mother, came across the Grail Castle and Fisher King, who was ill from an incurable sickness. During the celebrations that night, he caught a glimpse of the Holy Grail, but in not inquiring of it, ruined his chances of healing the Fisher King. After embarking on many great adventures, he returned to right his wrongs and became the next Grail King.

In another myth, Percy heard many great and wondrous things about the Holy Grail, and left Camelot to discover it. On his travels, he was bewitched by a temptress and very nearly lost himself, but recovered in shame before he could go through with claiming her. One day he would met Sir Bors and Sir Galahad, with whom he would travel to Sarras to encounter the Holy Grail. Because of his lapse of judgement with the temptress, Percival was permitted to be in the grail's presence because of his pure heart, but was forbidden from taking it.

Earlier myths and stories tell of him questing alone for the grail, while later the legends, most notably in Malory's Le Morte D'Arthur, tell of not him coming across the Holy Grail, but Sir Galahad. But in every tale, Percival dies after achieving the grail.

» Reincarnations: His first reincarnation was a French soldier in the first World War, a poor man's son who lost his life in a bombing toward the end of the war. Percival's most recent reincarnation was born in Austin, Texas to two ranchers who eventually moved to Dallas. After graduating from high school, he spent a few years job hopping before ironically landing a job at Medieval Times, where he worked for several years. Needing a change of scenery after too much time faking a British accent, he packed his bags and moved to the Big Apple.

» Personality: Of the many things that Percival isn't, it's tactful. He's smart enough to know the difference between right and wrong, but his hero complex sometimes does the talking itself. In his younger days, he was more naive and less knowledgeable of the goings on in the outside world. After exposure, he slowly began to pick up on simple things like manners, conversational quirks, and how to express emotions in a civil manner.

Always willing to learn new things or how to improve, Percival is an eager student in all aspects of both his personal and work life. He's fairly open and honest with his concerns, and reads like an open book, but if he has a secret, he will keep his lips sealed as though his life depends on it. Every day, he finds something to wonder at and be amazed by; he's a child in many ways, even though appearances prove otherwise. The man isn't completely naive, but be convincing enough, and he may believe even the most outrageous story.

A knight to the very end, though mostly at heart, he obeys the orders he's given, thinks of others before himself, and shows gratitude to those who do things for him, insisting on ways to pay them back or make up for it. He's rather unaware of his fault, particularly his tendency to be an ass-kisser when it comes to authority.

Percival is always aiming to be one step ahead of everyone, hoping to prove himself worthy so that others will respect him. He's unconsciously charming, noble to himself and others, and pure in heart, as he always has been, and forever will be. He may not have been counted along the most famous of knights, but he made himself known long ago for his courage and unfaltering determination, and still does today.
