Graduation & Employment

So last weekend was a blast and (of course) stressful.

My graduation went well, even though Clint got me to my graduation 3 minutes late. I had to be seated by 10:15 a.m. and we were circling around downtown for over an hour and 15 minutes. I kept wondering how it could be so darn hard when I gave him a map and the address. I found out later he didn't really pay attention to the address. So there was one thing I stressed about, but I'm happy I still crossed the stage. According to the OLLU volunteers working the ceremony, I made it in time. So I was relieved with that. :)

The only real major bummer was when my mother told me that we would be having 12 family members staying at the house Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and NONE of them attended my graduation Saturday. I was shocked because they had the nerve to go to Fiesta Texas and Sea World instead of attending. The day of my graduation, my mother's sister asked me, "What are you getting ready for?" I felt soo hurt, but I kept patient and explained that I was preparing for my graduation ceremony. Talk about upsetting emotions, I just felt it best to deal with what I felt later. I don't think I'll ever forget what they did though.

Then there was the graduation dinner of which tons and tons and tons of family were about. My mother reserved a room at La Margarita down at Market Square and we pretty much filled it, except that there was apparently another reservation for the room and half the family was squished to one side of the room. In any event, it still went well. My mother shared some loving words in Spanish about me and the special day, and I translated to Clint's family (of which Clint couldn't hear any of). :p It's weird though, translating something about yourself to others... At one point, I was on the verge of tears from my mother's speech that I told Clint's family, "I missed that part," while I was translating and they giggled and smiled. It was a pure, touching moment. After the speech my mother's sisters gathered around her and hugged her and I joined in.

Now that I have received my degree I keep thinking, "Now what?" Of course, I know this means I must find a job now and put what I learned to the test. So far I have placed resumes at USAA (several positions), Valero, Southwest Research Institute, City of San Antonio, and Wells Fargo. I can only imagine what the Sunday newspaper will hold. *slight sarcasm* But I have a feeling I'll be blessed with a job I will enjoy. I guess only time will tell from here on out, as I keep trying to find a great position. So this concludes my entry for today. Overall, graduation was really good.

Oh yeah, and I got myself enrolled in a weekend college program to obtain my Master of Science in E-Business Information Systems, of which I am choosing a concentration of computer security classes. The first trimester starts in mid-September and only on Saturdays, so here goes everything all over again. I guess I just love the educational beating. :p

Thanks for readin'. :)
