Xiu Xiu w/The Dead Science
Modified Arts 12/13/05
Phoenix, Arizona

This concert was a waste of $8 and 4 hours of my life. Terrible show. Three bands played last nite. The first band was not bad, but I never got their name ( I came late..suprise!) I would actually go see the first band again if I knew who they were, I am pretty sure that they are a local band. The Second band was the worst band I have ever seen. EVER SEEN! I have seen some terrible starting bands (aka...death metal rock nonsense that started for Sonic Youth at the Quest) but this band took the cake and the medal. The lead singer came in to watch the starting band, he had a cool vintage jacket on and a sweet faux hawk, I could just tell he was with a band. Anywho, since I want to be a clothing designer I feel I can critique his ensamble. I came in late for his performance too and this is the Dead Science performance. What it should be called is "You will want to die after you hear us" Anyways, he's on stage and his sweet jacket is gone and what is left is slacks and a white pin striped long sleave jacket doused in rhinestones? sequins? idk something fruity. He's on stage trying to be this deep punk guy and he is wearing something the class retard wears on picture day. I am sorry, his outfit could have been redeemed if he was at all musically talented. The band's sound was so cliche and the leads voice and lyrics were boring. He had a girlish voice but not good girlish like Perry Farrells. I left after three songs, I seriously couldn't handle it, I even had to sit in my car in the parkinglot because I could still hear it outside. Xiu Xiu did a good job. I'm not a big fan of Xiu Xiu but it was something to do on a Tuesday nite. They played a pretty tight set, they were as expected. Cheers of the show: Xiu Xiu almost redeemed the show, sweet 1st opening band. Jeers: Terrible Terrible Dead Science, Long pauses between songs for set up for Xiu Xiu, and the fact that they didn't ever play "I love the Valley." Oh yeah, and the venu had no bar! With music that terrible you need a drink.
