Yes, I admit it, I've become enamored with John Ford. The efficiency of effect and narrative, yet the range of tone and story! The clean mise en scene, the invisible camera- but then... he knocks you out with a striking, daring composition (see: the first meeting of Doc Holliday & Wyatt Earp, looking linearly down the length of the bar in My Darling Clementine.) That said, there's still little room in my canon for Frank Capra, although Howard Hawks and Preston Sturges have squeezed in.
Tonight I think we'll go to a student art exhibit reception, then perhaps a $2 movie at the student union. (LIttle Miss Sunshine? looks silly but hey, 2 bucks!)
