I love Mount Vernon.

Entering just about any shop downtown is like going to Grandma's house. Everyone is so caring and just so excited to see you.

This morning I woke up to go to a Methodist church down the road. I attended the 11:00 service. As soon as I walked in, I caught the eyes of a smiling old couple, who quickly rose to their feet to shake my hand and introduce themselves. They seemed so genuinely interested in learning about me. They were quick to pose new questions after each of my responses, thus my social awkwardness went undisclosed. Soon, other grinning elderly couples came to listen in on the conversation.

When the service was about to start, the woman from the first couple invited me to sit with her and her husband. She was so helpful and friendly. Everyone in town is like that. My friend went to a different church service that was recommended to her by a librarian who attends it. This afternoon, my friend found a little care package gift and note in her mailbox from the librarian!

I went to the Bijou last night to see Dark Knight. It's the little local movie theater. There's only one movie screen, and the theater gets movies that have been out for a long time, but the ticket price is FOUR DOLLARS. The food is so reasonably priced as well. A small popcorn is $1.50. A large popcorn is, like, $3.50. If you bring your own popcorn container (aka. A giant plastic bowl or something of the like), you get half off. Before the movie starts, the owner, Jerry, comes to the front of the theater and welcomes everyone. When he says hello, everyone in the theater shouts back, "Hi Jerry!" It is FANTASTIC. The movie last night was supposed to start at 10, but since he was making jokes and announcements until 10:30, he said that everyone was allowed free refills throughout the evening.

Silver Spider, the teenage-girl-aimed boutique/novelty shop downtown is going to make Christmas shopping a BREEZE. I love just about everything I lay eyes on in that store. And it is all reasonably priced!! There are a ton of funky headbands, earrings, and knick-knacks that are priced at $1 each or 6 for $5. Gah. Gotta love it.

So I love the town, and the Cornell College campus is lovely. I start classes tomorrow.

The friend situation is a work in progress, but I'm crossing my fingers that I will be able to say only good things about that at some point, too. We shall see.

I miss my friends from back home so badly. That's my biggest struggle right now.

Okay. Off to go fill out my absentee ballot for the State Primary Election!
