Challenge 6: Big Shot Showrunner Part 1 - The Pitch

Sep 16, 2019 02:36

Reunion follows a group of friends, and some enemies, meeting up again at their college reunion. The main group consists of Ashley, Robert, Olivia, Kate, and William. The group hasn’t kept in contact over the years. Old friendships are tested, while new friendships, or maybe more, are formed. (second half of the synopsis is after the characters)

This is like a grown up version of Friends. I like this.

Thanks! This comment made me actually think about expanding this and pitching it in one of my screenwriting classes.

When I did this before in another landcom, I used it later for an original fiction worldbuilding exercise. I ended up with over a dozen short stories from it.

I think your idea is great. A "pilot" script would be a great way for you to grow your skills.

This looks very interesting! It would be neat to see how the characters react to each other now that they are older.

Thanks! I love reunions in fiction. I read a bunch of fanfic with reunions too because I love seeing characters come together and see how they have changed as individuals and compared to each other.

I can picture this as either a sitcom or a drama.

At first, I was picturing this more like a traditional sitcom, but the more I wrote, I was imagining a more dramatic hour long comedy like Greek, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, etc.

I like how much energy you put into this concept and the variety of images you chose. The small banner up top makes me wonder what happened. So that leads me to read more to find out if this is some kind of 'disaster strikes' show or if the tables are all in disarray because everyone had so muc fun.
Great job!

Thanks! I think my classwork in screenwriting and pitching paid off! My idea behind the banner was more metaphorical towards the dysfunction between characters at reunions, so I looked for abandoned college campuses.

I really like reunion type stories, so this looks super interesting to me! All the various characters are already quite nicely fleshed out, I can definitely picture them. And the Gen Z drinking game sounds very intriguing, as someone quite older than that (and someone who rarely played drinking games to begin with, lol), I have no idea what that could be. :D Also, your picspams are super pretty, I really like the lighting you used.

Yes! Reunion stories are some of my favorites. I love seeing how characters interact after being apart for so long, and I especially like if bonds that were never that strong before become strong after being separated. I think the drinking game would be something very self-deprecating and sarcastic in nature, but where a lot of alcohol gets drunk. I'm 26, and I'm in grad school with undergrads and grad students who are still 4 years younger than me, and I see a divide even there. Aww, thank you! I'm glad I entered this challenge last minute after worrying that I should come up with an idea for a class instead, but now, I think I might flesh this out into a real pilot and pitch.
