Challenge 3x6 - Try Me

Mar 05, 2020 20:22

There was a funny coincidence with this challenge in that mere hours before it was posted I had tried a new recipe for brownies (which had turned out amazing). So I kinda wanted to find another one and make more brownies, maybe some coffee ones, but I just couldn't find another recipe that I liked at all, specifically not one that combined using both real chocolate and coffee (which I would have substituted anyways, but yeah).

Anyways, in the end I decided to stick with the brownie recipe I had already made (the second batch was a disaster, everything went wrong, but the brownies were still quite yummy, lol) and do something else for this challenge instead, which brings me to what I actually made which is origami stars.

A few weeks ago I read this post on tumblr and since it was about origami stars I had never made before, I really wanted to try them. I forgot about it again, until I gave up my brownie idea and was thinking about what else to do so then I thought about these stars.

How to make them is shown in this video:

Here is my attempt:

I had to cut the stripes out of a blank paper first and I realized too late I should have cut down the long side, not the short side, because this way, my stripes ended up being a little too short and I had to cut them in half to be able to make any decent star. Pictures 1-3 show my preparation and then my first attempt at a star with the too short stripe, which did not work out well.

Picture four shows how I cut the stripe in half to get decently long stripes and picture five shows all my end results together. The very last star I made is the best one, I finally got the hang of this after five tries. But in the video, the tutor says her stars didn't turn out great at first either, so that at least validated me, lol.

This was a very fun exercise and I actually really like the outcome even when it took a bit to get there. It was a lot of fun to make these stars and a way to do origami that I hadn't tried before, so that was quite interesting.
