Recently they had decent quality sewing machines for a really good price at the local ALDI, and since I always wanted to be able to alter my clothes myself (I have the eternal problem of too long trouser legs), I figured now was the time ( Read more... )

Yep - I've been reusable products for a while now (cup and washable pads), and it's great. And the great thing about making your own pads is that it's even cheaper - and it's not like they have to look super pretty to work...

Oh this is so cool! I've been wanting a sewing machine for a while to make myself some clothes but this is an awesome reason to get one. Making pads! They look really soft and comfortable too.

I think I need a bit more practice before I try actual clothing, but the pads worked out all right. They're a bit lopsided (corners are difficult, so now one end is longer than its counterpart) but not so much that it matters. They are absolutely soft and comfy - but the real test will be whether or not they'll hold up after a go in the washing machine. *g*

If you end up liking sewing, I recommend quilting. It's my favorite. Start easy and simple. I also plan to make some pinterest crafts using my old clothes. You can turn torn jeans into bags and such, for instance.

I'd certainly love to try quilting. It looks really interesting - and really, extra blankets are never a bad thing.

Saving old clothes for crafts is a great idea. I usually give my old clothes to charity, but sometimes they're not really fit for second-hand use, but they would be fine for crafting.
