I have quotes to post...things to write...reflections, and all that!
Well, the reflection on drawing again can be posted later because the only one really interested in it will be...well...me. So that's off the list.
Sat: Kick-off for teacher appreciation week, opening at 8 with free coffee and scones, and door prizes.
As soon as I walk through the door, I'm told that someone forgot to schedule music, so I was filling in back there. "Don't worry, all you have to do is walk around, listen to music, and pick out what you want to buy after work."
Morning announcement, made by KC: "I hope everyone's ready for me to open the doors, 'cause ready or not, theres...no one in the parking lot, but we're hopeful."
A whole four people showed up, so KC took coffee and scones to anyone who wanted some, which was (watch, I'm going to use the wrong form here probably...if so I'll hear about it later) an illicit pleasure because we're only allowed water at the work stations. Which is totally fair, 'cause at Michaels we had practically no air conditioning and weren't allowed to keep even water with us.
With my first drink of coffee I remembered that I don't like Starbucks coffee. I hate it, actually. Several gagging sips, 8 sugars, and a generous infusion of half and half later, it was drinkable.
Once the music guy arrived at 9 (there had been NO customers, so I did just walk around and listen to music) I was back at the info desk with R. Someone else came in at 11. Another someone else at 1. Four people at info, and things didn't really start picking up until 2. Needless to say, we were searching for things to do. To assist with that endever, a shelver brought over four copies of a book, one for each of us, to look at and guess where it belonged. The title: Toilets of the World. (I highly recommend that anyone look up this book, it's great!) The small 6 inch square book is filled with pics of, you guessed it, toilets around the world with a small description of where the pics are from or what makes the toilets special.
Where does it go? I guessed travel. Someone else guessed summer reading tables. Someone pointed out that for her to have it, it came from zone one, so I guessed reference, then art. We were getting closer. Actually, it belonged in Graphic Design. I wish I'd become a graphic designer. Maybe it isn't too late.
The rest of the day went by quickly and was fun, as the three other people working info and the shelver had all worked with eachother for at least three years and had good senses of humor. I didn't feel the pressure to provide conversation/humor and got to know my coworkers a little better.
Quotes from work yesterday.
Me: So, who was that guy?
My manager, the second in command: What guy?
Me: The guy you were hassling.
Her: Oh, the obnoxious Brit?
