the tripp

the road trip was great. crazy nights/days were spent on the road. it took us 40 hours to get to seattle. we drove straight non stop, except to get gas and food. but its all worth it. seattle is such a great city. the culture is alive and breathing and thats what i love most about it. seattle-lites are so lucky to live in such a beautiful city! next stop was san francisco, it took us almost a day to get there. the highway was going in all sorts of ways- crazy twists and ups and downs, and scary cliffs not far off to the right. we took the 101  which is the scenic route (the highway that runs along the coast). we even drove through the redwood forest where the trees were like sky scrapers! they were enormous and tower over you like majestic giants. it was an amazing ride. at night it would get really misty and the fog would get thick and low. and it doesnt help that the road wraps around the mountains so sometimes you cant even see if a car is coming around the bend. it was pretty dangerous. and driving at 3am in the morning with everyone asleep for 5 hours straight doesnt help. thank goodness for music to keep me company and awake in those dark hours. i find that the hours between 4am - 7am to be the most beautiful and rewarding. it is the time that is the darkest, but in such a short period of time you are able to see the sun come up and light up the world. its the most peaceful time of the day. i am hardly up at those times when im at home, but on the road its such a great experience. its something that the one driving could appreciate most because everyone else is fast asleep. it could get lonely, but the picturesque scenes made it all worthwhile. there was a time somewhere in south dakota where all you could see is this really long stretch of highway and you cant see nothing for miles except the stunning landscape of mountains and meadows. it was like driving inside a painting but better because you get to see it change before your eyes. i thought it was so wonderful. and what i really noticed on the road was how green the grass was out there! its definitely greener... and that made me smile for the whole symbolic thought of it. we even drove through wine country, which was absolutely beautiful.
