Hey everyone! What's up? Things these days have been up and down, but as is life. It is to be expected.
The first week of classes has come and gone, and I'm ready to get back into the swing of things. I don't have that many classes this semester, which is fine because I'm going to have more out-of-class related work to do than ever before (primarily because of musical theatre and directing). But here's the breakdown:
Archetypes: Amazing. I mean, Leigh teaches it so how can't it be? I'm very excited to learn about all the archetypes and explore how actors can use them with a piece.
Musical Theatre: I have my doubts. I have huge doubts. It will probably be entertaining, but also very stressful. I'm not going to rant about anything (yet), but I'm sure I'll have a lot of things to say about this class as the semester progresses.
Technical Writing: The class itself is incredibly boring and the material is terribly boring. But Nappy is in the class! And the teacher is a huge goof. But I'm taking the class, regardless of the negatives, because Nappy alone outweighs the cons. And the teacher wears a lot of hats.
Directing II: I'm going to learn a lot from this class. And it's probably going to scare the shit out of me every week. But I'm ready to work, and work hard. I have a lot of great ideas and I want to really take the assignments to the next level. I'm so ready.
The Ash Girl: Although not technically a class, it takes up a lot of my time. Rehearsal, without divulging any information, is going really well. I love the work I'm doing and it's been really fun. It's going to be a great show. Stay tuned.
Everything other than class? Surprisingly, going pretty well. But in typical Zachary fashion things are bound to dip, hah.
Anyway, some quotes I've come across recently that I particulary enjoy. And, for the most part, completely agree with:
"Knowing your own darkness is the best method for dealing with the darknesses of other people." --Kant
"We cross our bridges when we come to them and burn them behind us, with nothing to show for our progress except a memory of the smell of smoke, and a presumption that once our eyes watered." --Tom Stoppard
"If you hate a person, you hate something in him that is part of yourself. What isn't part of ourselves doesn't disturb us." --Hermann Hesse
"No man remains quite what he was when he recognizes himself." --Thomas Mann
I really love the last one. I think it's great.
Anyway, I should get something in my stomach. Until next time!
