Hey everyone! What's up? In honor of Erica's birthday (Happy Birthday E!) I will go ahead of schedule and post the second Future Story 3 chapter early. Why? Because it just so happens that the second chapter is...

Chapter II
Erica

“Bye-bye,” Erica concluded getting off the phone with Margie. It was around 7:30 in the morning and Erica had stayed up all night writing her latest manuscript: The Lady of the Mines. It was another fantasy novel about a young girl who grew up among a race of mighty, virile warriors who must protect her land from mystical doom and an evil prince--and of course find love in the process. Since acquiring her job at the high school, Erica hadn’t as much time to write as she used to, so when the creative spark did hit her she would have all-nighters of writing and coffee, and the occasional late-night infomercial for a few good laughs. They were productive nights. And they were tiring nights.

“I should have focused more on writing,” Erica said to herself while thinking that--well--she should have focused more on writing. After six hours into the night she had taken to talking to herself. “Erica, you idiot.”

She had one book published and in stores--it didn’t sell very well. But Erica also posted stories online, on her website, with a large Internet fan base. Going by the pseudo name lionfeathers, she’s created quite a buzz in realm of online short fiction. Yes, there is such thing. No, it hasn’t gotten her anywhere.

Yet.

The Lady of the Mines was to be the first full-length novel Erica would post online. However, on her website she would charge people a fee to read it, like purchasing the book online, but with immediate gratification--no waiting for delivery, or paying for shipping. Erica was sure her new book would be a success. It had to. It was loosely based on the events that conspired between her, Amy, and Vince. The Evil Prince Vince.

Erica had put the events regarding Vince and the theft behind her. She felt it better to forget than to linger on it. Besides, there were more important, pressing issues in her life to be concerned with. Who cares about material positions and a broken heart anyway?

“Why do I make my villains so likeable? I want to hate you!”

As Erica wrote and rambled her eyes caught a glimpse of a neon pink Post-It note on her desk: Zach’s at 4:30. She was having dinner at Zach’s that night, either order in or heat up something. She was going to push for ordering food. They were going to play a game or watch of movie. She was going to push for a movie. But inside she knew they would just end up talking for hours until it was too late to even start a movie. Typical. But, it was fine. They were fun evenings, and nothing short of therapeutic. After Matt fell into his coma all of the progress Zach made on his depression faded away, and he was just as pathetic and helpless as before. Erica did her best to cheer him up, and be a good friend. But she mainly did it to make sure he didn’t run away again. Without Matt who would look for him, she thought sometimes.

“God, I’m going to need to sleep if I want to be fun tonight.”

Erica got up as if to take a nap. She stretched and turned off her computer monitor. But, before she could leave for her bed she took a quick glance behind her.

“One more chapter…then I will sleep.”

A few hours passed and Erica was awoken from her nap by her telephone ringing. Half-asleep Erica grabbed the phone from her nightstand and held it against her face sloppily.

“Hello?” Erica asked, her voice groggy. “Hi Amy.”

It was Amy. They talked. Amy sounded excited and scared--she had information. She was at the police station.

“Holy crap. I’ll be right down.”
