hehe. Hehehehe. Not to laugh at your trauma, but that last part about protecting freedom got me.
Why?
Because, in a small and mostly insignificant way, I do much the same thing with trying to protect the overall freedom to travel while watching as it (and I) hop on a few smaller, more commonly taken for granted freedoms through the use of legal jujitsu and technicalities.
And because while I've heard of and even seen one or two internal affairs types, they generally are more interested in dotting i's and crossing t's than they are at rooting out negligence, idiocy, and gross incompetence.
If you know me, you know who I work for. And that perhaps may color my perceptions a bit. But then I also have had some insights into the workings of the Department of Defense, and have found that bureaucracy by and large has its own set of rules that sometimes bear a passing resemblance to the mission statement, but sometimes can be summed up with the three cardinal letters of the main commandment. CYA.
However much my own perception has gotten bitter, fatalistic, and/or cynical, there's always the optimistic minority side that thinks maybe things will change for the better. And I hope you do get to find a place for yourself, and that you make it work.
Also, if you happen to find a position, TELL ME!! I want to get out of this godforsaken blue uniform and do something different.
