SUMMARY: “…you're called Hoe?”
“WHAT!?”
“What ‘WHAT’? You just said your name is Hoe…”
“Oh God! Not Hoe, you dodo! YunHo. Yun-Ho! Y.U.N.H.O. Yunho!”

If that’s their first meeting, how are they going to spend long periods of time together?

“So…? Are you going to ask her out?” Heechul inquired, invading Jae’s personal space; a regular occurrence.  Honestly, Jae sometimes forgot why he was friends with Heechul at all.

“No, Heech! Jeez, you know it’s against the code of conduct.” he rolled his eyes, knowing full well that Heechul was aware of that, while typing up the rest of the required data; trying to finalise the bill for Miss Shirota Ito -  the woman in question, trying his hardest to ignore his friend’s fingers in his hair.

Yeah. Don’t ask.

“Why not? Come on Joongie, we both know she wants you. And she’s hot…and super rich! Come on she’s the whole package!” He was scrambling for reasons to entice Jae to go for it and snatch the easy prey that was dangling in front of his eyes. Only, his enthusiasm was not shared by his younger friend; who successfully ignored him and continued typing, making it seem like the most enjoyable task.

“Ouch! Chullie!” he exclaimed, when his hair was tugged a little hard; Heechul knew exactly how much Jae loved his soft, silky mane.

“Answer me” He demanded.

Giving up on his task, Jae sighed and turned around to face his so-called friend. Shoving the hand away from his precious hair, he held his hand up looking directly into his eyes.

“Ok Chullie, let’s make something clear; one, it’s against the rules and I could get fired, two, being hot and rich doesn’t make her the whole package, three, she’s way out of my league, four, we were just kidding about while she was staying at the resort and now that she’s leaving there’s no reason to continue it, and most importantly five, I like someone else and plan on asking her out. So butt out!” he folded a finger with each reason and poked Heechul’s cheek at the end.

“One, who cares about the rules, and you always get away with it anyways, you just need to pull the eyes. Two, what’s more attractive than sexy and money? Three…I’ll get back to that and…wait, WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU LIKE SOMEONE!?” It took some time for that to sink in, and Jae was waiting for it to hit home; smiling when he saw his friend’s eyes grow in size, his jaw dropping in shock.

“Unlike you, money and looks aren’t at the top of my list of desired traits in a partner.” Satisfied with rendering the other speechless, he rotated the swivel chair and continued typing. “Now quit gaping like skeleton and go get your work done. I need to see The Bane, apparently there’s a new employee who’s going to be in my department…” he continued mumbling to himself, without realising his only audience member had left; too shocked to tease Jae about the matter.

Done typing and sending a digital copy of the bill to the finance department, he turned around expecting Heechul to be there. He was not overly disappointed that the brunette wasn’t standing there; there was only so much of his antics one person could take. That was probably the main reason why Heech bothered him more than anyone else; Jae could actually put up with his annoying behaviour better than anyone else.

Checking the time, he realised he was already a couple of minutes late. Panicking he scrambled from the desk and ran out, speeding towards the main office. “Why does the always happen to me?” he moaned as he got closer to the office.

“I’m here!” he announced practically pouncing into the roomy office, slightly out of breath. Changmin jus lifted his gaze slightly to give him a disapproving glare, before going back to what he was doing. The guy in front of Changmin didn’t even turn around to look at Jae. “Humph” he thought, “that must be the new employee.” It annoyed him that both the men in the room just ignored his presence, while he crossed his arms and stood behind them awkwardly.

“Well, everything is done in terms of legality. You are officially a member of staff here at 5TAR Vacation Resort. Welcome to the team Yunho.” Changmin extended his hand to the new guy, who confidently took it; unknown to Jaejoong who had forgotten the name already, Yunho was smirking in victory - something he did often. “Now I’ll introduce you to your Head of Department.” Changmin pointed to Jaejoong. “Meet Kim Jaejoong, who will assist you while you settle in and teach you all about life as a member of our special team, hopefully…” Changmin explained, a hint of sarcasm in his tone, though it was clear that it was an order to Jaejoong.

“Uh, right. Hi, nice to meet you and welcome to the family…Yunho” why did that sound familiar? Jae had his hand extended to the guy, who was still not facing him and seated in that plush chair. He slowly rose to his feet, and in painful speed turned his body to face the smaller man, accepting the offered hand and confidently shaking it. “Nice to meet you, Jaejoong.” The smirk slowly fell from his face as it became obvious that Jaejoong didn’t seem to have recognised him at all, and just shook his hand in return.

“Right then, Jaejoong you know the procedure and formalities, so I expect you to take good care of Yunho. Treat him like your apprentice if you must, but I want him to be well-informed about all important matters. And do me a favour, introduce him to the other departments too, will you? We want to keep that closely knitted community feeling going.” Changmin drilled on about the whole thing, to which Jae paid close attention and kept nodding - very cutely in Yunho’s opinion - even though it seemed like he knew everything already. He was greatly disappointed that he hadn’t witnessed the look of utter shock he was hoping for, but oh well; Jae was going to click sooner or later…right?

Jae bowed signalling to Yunho that their little chat was probably over. “I’ve got it from here Manager Shim” he said standing back straight. Turning towards his charge, he pointedly glared confusing Yunho. “You should start off by showing respect to your superiors” he said meaningfully. Oh right, Yunho thought.

“Right. Off course. Sorry manager-sshi” he said, bowing to Changmin like Jae had once he realised what he had been hinting at.  Though it felt really weird to be bowing, but it was his idea so he had to suck it up!

“Ok then. You’re dismissed” Changmin said a little uncomfortably.

“Follow me” demanded Jae curtly; missing the thumbs up Yunho gave to the manager.

Just before they could walk out, Changmin called Jae back. The small employee turned around in expectation, hand on the door handle. “No complaints” was all Changmin said, but both men knew the meaning of those two words. Jae just nodded in response, opened the door and held it open for his new fellow employee.

Out in the corridor, Jaejoong kept walking with purpose towards the double doors on the opposite of the main office, something was nagging at the back of his head but he couldn’t put his finger on it. In an attempt to ignore the annoying feeling, Jaejoong looked beside him towards Yunho…and BAM!

That goofy smile (smirk) on bow-shaped lips with a mischievous hint mixed in, the moony-eye dorky staring, the tiny face, the height…the name!

Jae’s eyes became like saucers.

YUNHO!

HOE!

MOOB-MAN?

Noticing the enlargement of eyes and realisation and recognition sinking, Yunho did a mental happy dance; if he had a camera ready he would have taken a picture of Jae’s face right that minute and saved it forever! He looked ridiculously adorable standing there with his eyes as huge as a wild animal’s, eyebrows lost under the fringe, cute pouty lips gaping open in shock - totally a deer caught in the headlights, for a lack of a better analogy. Yup, Yunho thought, totally worth it!

Knowing he had complete control of the situation, Yunho leaned in with what appeared to be the world’s biggest smirk - ever! “So, Jaejoong? Sexy name for a delectable little kitten such as yourself, I must say.” He couldn’t help himself really, that completely blank look in Jae’s huge eyes was making Yunho want to tease him to no end; after all, he had been anticipating this moment from the minute his dad had agreed to the whole charade.

He was leaning so close that Jaejoong unconsciously had bent himself a little backwards at an awkward angle. The spell only seemed to break when Yunho breathed which due to his closeness to Jae, ruffled the latter’s tassels into his beautifully wide eyes.

Blinking like a wreck train, Jaejoong let out quite a dramatic little gasp, his fisted hand settling over his chest attempting to calm his erratically speeding heart. Finally realising the situation he had willingly put himself into, Jaejoong cursed his slow brain for not stepping in a couple of minutes ago - when he could have done something about it damn it!

The look of confusion instantly turned into a glower. Unconsciously Jaejoong flipped his fringe out of his eyes and stood up straight to his full height - hey the guy needed every millilitre he had!

“Ah, there’s the little tiger I was looking for!” Yunho exclaimed, while clapping his hands once in a sarcastic display of excitement.

“I suggest you address me in a formal way, apprentice…” Jaejoong sneered, with a surprising look of satisfaction and victory on his face. Little did Yunho, know what exactly he’d gotten himself into…

“Wha…what?” Yunho stuttered appalled. APPRENTICE!?

“Don’t stutter! It doesn’t help that moronic impression of yours.” It was Jaejoong’s turn to smirk as Yunho’s triumph seemed to crumble into shock and confusion - their roles completely reversed from a minute ago.

“Now then, apprentice of mine, you heard the manager. I am technically your boss, so you’d better listen to and follow everything I say or we’re going to have some problems before our workplace relationship even gets a chance to blossom. I’m hoping your skull is not too thick to understand that.” Ok, maybe Jaejoong was being a little mean on the guy’s first day, but it was the idiot’s own fault for provoking him! Jaejoong was usually the one in charge of showing people around and introducing new employees to the staff, all due to his sweet smiles and professional attitude that caught anyone under his spell.

That was until this guy came along…

Before Jaejoong had the chance to reinforce his status as the one in charge, a fit of laughter seemed to attack Yunho out of nowhere.

“What’s so funny?”

“Oh, you…” laugh “can’t be…” laugh “serious!” He was bent over by this point, practically hacking with the laughter, shaking his entire body.

Being mean, my foot! Thought Jaejoong as he continued to glare holes into the head bent down to his naval level; looking at the floor while its owner cackled like a dying goat.

“Listen here, you noob! If you don’t shut your trap and start respecting me this instant, I will have you on toilet duty for as long as I want!” Admittedly, Jaejoong’s feathers had been ruffled. That’s something that didn’t happen often, but when it did then…let’s just say, in Heechul’s words “Hell hath no fury like a pissed of Jaejoong”. And pissed off he was, this guy knew exactly how to push his buttons and he did not appreciate that one bit. It was bad enough that Changmin was somehow able to see right down to his soul, the red-head was not ready to let another soul-snooper sneak up on him. He did not like feeling so exposed. No way.

And that was the argument he decided he would use to justify what he was about to do - if an explanation was needed.

Pulling his leg backwards, Jaejoong brought his knee up in lightning-fast speed and struck Yunho’s family jewels; the sound of laughter immediately turning into howls of pain as the victim dropped to the floor like a rag doll, hands going to his crotch. He didn’t seem to be able to make any coherent sounds as he writhed on the floor on his stomach, is lower body pulled in on itself as his hands vainly attempted to sooth the immeasurable pain. Meanwhile, Jaejoong stood with his arms crossed in front of him, with a look of exasperation on his features.

“Oh quit being such a weakling!”

“You…you…you’re insane” Yunho managed to whisper between gasps, his eyes full of moisture, still sprawled on the floor.

“Yes. Yes, I am. So let this be a lesson for the future, apprentice. Unless you want to end up castrated, stop getting on my nerves.” Jaejoong had no idea what he was doing or saying; his brain still hadn’t caught up to the fact that he’d just literally assaulted a colleague - a new one at that! Looks like the psycho hormones are kicking in again, he thought.

“Follow me!” he snapped, not waiting to see if he was ok, as he fluidly stepped over the grunting body on the floor and marched forward.

Fuck! Was all Yunho could think as the kaleidoscope of colours behind his eyes slowly started to disappear and he could breathe again. So much for his victory! As he slowly got up off the floor, with an effort not to scream like a sorority girl, he was battling with himself; one part was denying what just happened, the other was screaming at him to go and teach the psychopath a lesson! “He kicked me.” He uttered disbelief belief clear in his eyes. What now? He thought.

According to the information on Jaejoong’s file, he had some serious violent issues. Although the document made it clear that he was no danger to the staff or customers, Yunho was having serious doubts. Who attacks someone on the first day of work?

“What’s taking so long, princess?” Jaejoong yelled from ahead.

PRINCESS!?

Ok, that’s it! Nobody calls The Jung Yunho a fucking Princess!

Halfway through his inner shouting contest, Yunho realised that technically he wasn’t The Jung Yunho. He was just Yunho, a regular employee…damn.

With no other choice but to suck it up, Yunho half wobbled half hopped his way forward to the not-so-cute evil cat. Yes, that’s right, he decided. Jaejoong is not a kitten. Kittens are cute and innocent. He’s a bloody violent evil cat! The kind that randomly scratch your face off!

Overreacting…? Pish!

“I’ll teach him. Calling me an appren…” He was in the middle of his childish threat when he heard a very familiar squeak from ahead.

Eh? Squeak?

“Omo! Shirota-san! You startled me!” Jaejoong gasped out. He’d almost gone plummeting down again, if it hadn’t been for the grip the exotic beauty had on him. Once he was over his surprise, he immediately got nervous. He’d been trying to avoid seeing her before she left. Now what?

“Oh Jaejoongie! I will dearly miss your charming antics” she easily smiled and Jaejoong’s nervousness evaporated. He remembered why he enjoyed this woman’s company so much. Don’t get ahead of yourselves! It’s not what you think! The most that had happened between them was an innocent kiss, or at least Jaejoong thought it was innocent. It was a shame because Heechul was right to some extent, Shirota was a beautiful independent woman who didn’t seem to suffer from the usual arrogance of the wealthy; probably because she was raised elsewhere and wasn’t so stuck up like the majority of Korea’s aristocrats.

“Ah, I will miss you too Ma’am. But I suppose we both knew we’d have to part one day, it just wasn’t meant to be” Jaejoong joked dramatically with a palm over his heart, making her laugh wholeheartedly.

“No need for the histrionics Jaejoongie. But I sincerely wish you’d come with me to Japan and work there. With your skill and personality you’ll make a wonderful asset to my company. You’re already fluent in the language…” she lingered off, hopefully.

“Shirota-san, I really appreciate your offer, but I’m going to have to refuse once again. I have responsibilities here, in Korea that I cannot abandon.” And he meant it.

“You are quite an enigmatic young man aren’t you? Full of mysteries” she deeply sighed.

While the two continued their heartfelt conversation that was leading to their farewell, Yunho just stood there grinding his teeth, feeling rejected.  Jaejoong obviously seemed to be close to whoever that was, and Yunho didn’t like that one bit - never mind the fact that he was cursing the man for kicking the daylights out of the him, a minute ago. The woman was beautiful, perhaps a foreigner? She had exquisite features that seemed to belong in a place of excitement; her long, tanned legs a sharp contrast to Jaejoong’s alabaster complexion. Dressed in a sophisticated floral dress, her very posture was elegant.

“Omg it’s you!” While Yunho was assessing the interaction between the two in front of him, Heechul had jogged towards him as soon as he’d seen him standing there from across the hall. Yunho looked at the man who was all but kangaroo-hopping towards him with instant recognition.

“Oh, hey.”

“You’re in uniform!” Heechul squealed standing right in front of him, looking him up and down appreciatively. “And damn do you make it work for you” he ended with a whistle, making Yunho quite uncomfortable.

“Uhm, thanks?”

“Don’t be shy, we’re colleagues now! Which means we can say and do whatever we want to each other” he stated rather boldly. Yunho just raised an eyebrow, turning around to stare at the still-talking couple, glare instantly back on. Noticing this, Heechul quickly observed the situation and came up with a hypothesis all on his own.

“Ah. I see you’ve been entranced by the Queen.”

“Huh?” Yunho was sure he was entranced with the kitte-CAT! Evil cat, he corrected in his mind.

“The Queen, AKA Shirota Ito. She’s a regular, though I think that has more to do with her fetish for our very own Prince Charming than her pleasure in staying at the resort. Don’t be embarrassed, you’re not the only one who’s hypnotised by her. Unfortunately, the only one she sees is well…” he pointed towards the couple, who were still chatting animatedly - much to Yunho’s annoyance. Humph, it’s not like he kicked me and walked off and now forgot about me completely!

“Are they dating?” He asked, horrified as the thought suddenly occurred to him.

“What? Oh! Jaejoong and her? If only. He’s too stupid to realise what he’s letting go. Idiot. I can’t believe him.” Heechul seemed to have his own grudge against the person in question, but Yunho had no time to analyse that. He was too relieved to delve too deep into anything at the moment. Though it freaked him out that he should feel that way about a person who just kicked him with no remorse…

“Where’s she from” he wondered absently, subconsciously trying to distract himself.

“Sexy isn’t it? One side of her lineage is Mexican, not sure which one.”

“That is sexy.”

“So, what was your name again, handsome?

“Handsome” Yunho replied with a smug shrug and flip of his hair.

“Wow, now! Let’s not be too modest” Heechul’s snarky remark drew Yunho’s attention once again, causing the man to genuinely smile and decide not to get too worked up about his…ahem, boss.

Yeah right! Like I’ll address him that way. You keep dreaming cougar!

AN: Umm just to clarify, Shirota Ito is inspired by Shirota Yu...Jaejoong's real life Japanese (male) friend...But Shirota here is a woman! Sorry, but I really like his mixed background and wanted to include it in here - but I needed a woman...so you got this.

Please don't imagine Shirota Yu in female form! Consider it a weird coincidence that they have the same first name and lineage...

Ugh! What have I done...OH WELL.
