Dean didn't want anyone to think he wasn't grateful. He was kinda happy that when the Great White Light faded, he wasn't surrounded by little demons with pitchforks dancing around him while surrounded by hellfire. That was a fate he was happy to avoid.
But on the other hand, there were no trumpets of angels and a big pearly gate waiting for him to stand in front of. The whole wings and a halo setup wasn't really his cup of tea, and while Dean was never really a religious man either - he was a bit disappointed.
If the only thing that he got out of death was being able to see his mom and just be with her until Sam and John joined them in a few decades - he was holding out on them not killing each other sooner than that - then he would have been very happy. But no.
Instead he got a folding chair on a dock by the lake. He looked around, and no one what there. "Hello?" he called out, walking up the dock and onto the path, but no one returned his shouts.
Finally he sat down and looked at the cooler to his right. Opening it, there was a case of beer there and a large bag of peanut M&M's. "Well, at least I got something..."
And so he just sat there, staring out over the water. And the beer never ended and the bag kept refilling. Along the way a tent appeared with a matress and a little fire pit and he'd sleep. A radio that managed to pick up only classic rock kept the quietness away and thankfully it never ran out of power.
But after awhile the loneliness started to get at him and he just sat on the edge of the dock and looked up at the sky.
"Not that I'm complaining... but it's really boring as all hell here. I mean, if you gave me a strip club in walking distance, that alone will make this all better."
There was no answer and he sighed, leaning back to lay down on the dock. "Great, I die after saving all those people, and I can't even get one of the 72 virgins to come keep me company..."
