Mini Event! the spider and the mistletoe

Dec 30, 2011 00:08

Across the Keep runs a rather large spider, scampering from building to building, room to room and carrying with him a decent sized branch of mistletoe. One might catch him skittering up a wall to build a web above a doorway, or stringing mistletoe up from various points on the ceiling.

He doesn't linger in any particular place for too long, save ( Read more... )

Mistletoe is something that Sarea can honestly say she's never seen before.

Wolf was barely out of the house back home, and, come on, why would her brothers put up mistletoe when it was usually only the seven of them? That would just be weird. Jake had been the only one who had a mate, and they didn't need silly old mistletoe to make out whenever the urge struck them.

So Wolf honestly doesn't have a clue as to what the green plants hanging from the ceiling are, and she really couldn't care less. She's to busy looking for scraps of metal and stuff for Megaminds quite late Christmas present, and something to use as transportation for Kevas.

Conveniently, Megamind had completely missed Joe’s post about the spider planting mistletoe all over the Keep. As far as he was concerned, someone had placed hemi-parasitic plants all over the Keep which…granted, was mystifying but he didn’t pay it too much mind. He had things to do, supplies to gather and maybe a person or two to see.

Sarea was one of the people he would not mind seeing one bit, so when he happens upon her, he wastes no time in coming up to her.

“Sarea - look at this, did you see my calculations with this compass? It’s madness, it spins and spins and spins, you can’t hardly get any information out of it…”

Wolf will never admit that she totally didn't notice him and almost jumped when he approached, but she's quick to calm herself and quirks an eyebrow, typical smirk tilting her lips.

Mentally she's thanking God she doesn't have any of his present on her person, since that would be no fun.

His words make her frown, though, and she peers at the compass, head tilting. "What the hell? It should be pulled somewhere, right? Unless... what?"

He looks delighted at her conclusions - because most of the buffoons in the Keep would probably have no idea what he was talking about.

He leans in close, and whispers confidently;

"It means, my dear Sarea, that there are no poles - wherever we are. There's no magnetic pull. It's proof that we are not on earth, instead of simple mere speculation."

Mistletoe? What are mistletoe? SCIENCE!

That just makes her frown, crossing her arms and thinking about it.

"Have to admit, that's seemed the most logical assumption, anyways. But having proof... that just kinda puts things more in perspective. Not being on earth means a lot of things could be completely different then what they seem to be."

Wolf has glanced around at the plants a bit, but otherwise given them no thought. She'd used to all sorts of plants from wandering in the forest back home, and these don't look familiar, so who cares?

"Precisely." He nodded emphatically, rocking on his heels and looking incredibly pleased with himself. "This makes it a bit more concrete than simple speculating."

It had been his assumption also, that they weren't on earth, but having evidence made him feel better. He's too distracted by his creation to be worried about any silly mistletoe!

"Still, there's not much we can do about it, right? I mean." Wolf frowns, "Even though we know this, what can we do with the knowledge?"

Sarea blows a piece of hair out of her eyes, glancing up as she does so and spotting more of those stupid little plants. "Hey, d'you have any idea what the plants are that're suddenly everywhere? I've never seen them before."

Biggest. Dorks. Ever.

HE shakes his head, frowning a little.

"I'm not sure, I'm still...working on that part."

Baby steps. His plans are always long and meticulous. Eighty something steps, baby.

Though -- at the mention of the plants, he stiffens a little, having encountered this earlier.

"Ah. Mistletoe, I believe."

"I guess we'll just have to figure it out, eventually."

Wolf just gives him a blank look, not understanding the sudden stiffness.

"Mistletoe? What's that?"

He really debates on telling her the meaning of it -- but, well. He doesn't particularly want to lie to her, villain or no. There's no reason to, save for the fact that it might...save them both some embarrassment.

"Some sort of ridiculous tradition - it's folly, that's what it is - ridiculousness! Who hangs parasitic weeds all over the place then expects people to kiss underneath it? Honestly, it's a disaster waiting to happen. The place could be infested with bugs by morning!"

Wolf stares at him for a moment, taking in what he'd said and registering it in the back of her mind before it clicks exactly what they are.

"Ohhhh, so it's a human tradition, gotcha." she frowns then, tilting her head, "Why the hell would they choose a poisonous plant, of all things, to use for that? That's ridiculous."

She's totally missing the point, and it's not even on purpose. Asides from Christmas itself, she doesn't much care for most human traditions.

He's already had his embarrassment for the day -- so he's kind of apprehensive of explaining further.

"Ah. Yes. So I understand." He run into this earlier. "A tradition -- a foolish one, but one nonetheless."

He's not sure he wants to go further.

Wolf shrugs, not worried in the least. She has no idea that he's already been forced into following the tradition, of course. She doesn't pry into his affairs after all.

"Well, I've got no time for silly human traditions. Gotta get back to work finding stuff. I'll see yah later, kay? Oh, and,"

Wolf leans in and, grinning, kisses him - on the cheek, mind you! - before pulling back with a smirk, turning to saunter off with a wave over her shoulder.

"Merry Christmas~|

"Neither do I! Not --" he hurries to explain this, "that I wouldn't want ti I just wouldn't want to I just-- meep"

Stunned, he can't do anything except stand there and stare at her as she walks off.
