Nepeta wasted no time. Making certain she had her claws, she made her way to Equius's room and tried to creep up behind him for her standard pounce-tackle greeting.

With his back against his door, he opened his journal again and waited for a response. Maybe she wasn't going to come and help him? What was that in the corner of his eye? Ah... Equius will humor you, Nepeta, and act as if he doesn't see you coming.

Nepeta pounced, springing straight for Equius's shoulders in an attempt to unbalance him and knock him to the floor, despite his easily defensible position.

"Aha. Not today, moira-a-aha-"

He quickly turned, catching her with ease... Well, he hasn't actually gotten used to this sapping of strength so he stumbles back a bit but still manages to hold Nepeta up on his shoulders. He's making absolutely sure not to harm her, but is starting to think that he might not need to take as much caution here.

"Ready, Miss Leijon?"

She dug her fingers in as he rocked back. She'd expected him to fall. She hadn't expected to have to slow down! But soon they were standing in the hall, the pair of them.

"Yessss! Let's go!" And jumping down off him, Nepeta began bounding for the stairs.

"I shall follow, until we actually see the creature. Right behind you." he said as he held his journal under his arm. He had absolutely no idea where a quillbeast normally makes its home, but hopefully Nepeta has been here long enough to get an idea.

"Where should we search, first?"

"We must prowl the fields!" She had made the stairs and was not inclined to wait for him to catch up, "I am positive she stalks the outer bailey."

He didn't intend to be left behind, so he picked up his own pace. His cleats scratched against the floor rather noisily each time they turned a corner, letting his moirail know how close he was.

"What does this beast look like, by the way? Should we devise a strategy?"

He visualized a large, spiky demon covered in menacing quills. How he would manage to get a quill of just the right color was another matter entirely.

"Um..." That was a very important question and Nepeta was positive that she would have an answer soon.

She just didn't have one right then.

"It's a beast with quills! And we already have a strategy."

It was the best and only strategy when it came to hunting.

"We need to find the quillbeast without becoming somebody else's unsuspecting prey. So I will stalk and you will make sure nothing is creep up behind us."

She'd forgotten how well Equius takes orders suggestions from her.

"Are these quills massive and menacingly sharp? Is it venomous?"

He skidded to a halt, putting on quite a fussy face.

"Of course nothing would dare creep up on us with me on guard! The very idea, Nepeta... Nothing in the right mind would dare try any stealth on someone with eyes as sharp as mine." The more he speaks, the more likely it seems something will easily sneak up on him...

He continued on, still having a rather grumpy expression.

"They're the same quills we've been writing with." Otherwise there wouldn't be a point, "And I creep up on you all the time!"

But then, she was a prodigious hunter! She was the best.

"It can't be too hard to hunt the quillbeast because Sollux did it and he's not a very good hunter at all!" And reaching the doors on the ground floor, she shoved them open and headed outside.

"Well that is because I merely pretend not to see you. I am always aware of your upcoming strikes."

He thought about the quills, deciding that either the beast was not very large... or MASSIVE and the quills were more like what hairs are to a troll or any other furry animal. The very thought excited him.

"Hah... He certainly is not."

Equius quickly followed her outside.

"That's not true! You purractically never see me!" She turned and began walking backwards across the field so that she could talk to him as she went. Even if he was a lying moirail!

"Well... How do you know? Perhaps it is a game of my own, that I play? The "pretend to not see his moirail pounce on him affectionately" game?"

The tone in his voice sounded as if she caught onto his fib. Uneasy, yet casual. Maybe even a little joking. He began to look around, hoping to spot some towering creature in the distance.

"Do you see it, yet?"

"Beclaws you don't play games unless I make you! You don't like fun or purrtend or cuddly stuff."

And she sounded petulant. He shouldn't insult her hunting! She is a very fierce hunter and stalking and if she has to lose him and find the quillbeast on her own to prove it, then she will!

"It's not here. It's in the fields. Through there."

And she pointed towards the gate in the wall, past the thermal pools.

"Fine Fine. I cannot argue with that. I admit you may get the upper hand on me at times." Most times, but he will leave that bit out.

He looked where she was pointing, making his way towards the gate with her. He was already in unfamiliar territory, due to not spending much time outside yet. Because of this, he's going to need to rely on his most masterful hunter moirail to track this monster down.
