A Smooth Landing

I woke up today and as I was pouring what was left of my ground coffee I decided to create a new name for a handsome man I shared some mornings with in the mid 2000s.

I settled on "All The Words That Hurt People When They Read Them."

So as I sit here with this inadequately weak coffee I want to tell All The Words That Hurt People When They Read Them that the best part of knowing him was waking up and drinking overly strong coffee.

I don't know why I am thinking of him this morning. It might have to do with the way this watery-excuse-for-a-morning-java isn't making me sick to my stomach. Unlike him, I never got nauseous from caffeine. The minute we would step off the bus I'd find a good place to sit and chew my nails while he found a good place to puke. I'd cross my legs, uncross them, and recross them again while I waited. Sometimes an ant would crawl up my ankle and I would count how long I could go before swatting it off. It was never too cold or too hot while I waited.

When he was done letting his stomach kick out whatever was pissing it off, his face was as fair as a smooth landing after turbulence. In the morning, he was always a handsome airplane and my fingernails were always car crashes.
