Avoidance (2/3)

Dec 06, 2009 14:57

Liz is just standing there trying to figure out how to react when she heard a knock on the door. Jonathan peaks in. “Miss Lemon, you are needed down at Studio 6H. There is an ongoing incident involving Jenna and uhhhh…” reading off of his post-it, “knives.”

“Aw, nerds!” She runs past Jonathan, leaving Jack alone in his office.

After the Jenna debacle was over and done with, she goes and hides in her office, refusing to go back upstairs to his office and finish their talk. Luckily, the rest of the day went Jack-free. Even during before the show, he doesn’t call and pester her with ‘cat anuses’ tonnage issues.

Usually, Liz stays far from the commotions all through the after-party by sitting in one corner with a beer in hand, quietly rating how the show went. Tonight, though, her head is occupied with a completely different set of thoughts. When she left Jack in his office, she was relieved not having to answer him and to escape the scene unscathed. But she is surprised that tonight, she finds herself constantly glancing at the entrance hoping to see Jack walk in.

After an hour of beers and waiting in vain, she leaves the party disappointed.

Jack is rarely the type who wallows in misery. Over the years, he found out that in times of despair, Chinese food is his food of preference even though he considers it “pedestrian”. Once he got home, he picked up the phone and ordered his usual. He doesn’t wait for his food for that long because ten minutes after hanging up, he hears a knock on the door. He reaches for his money and opens the door.

“I don’t know why I’m here.” Liz says.
