So there was this really fun meme that was going on on tumblr called genderswap in which you take your favorite shows/movies and create your perfect casting with women taking the men's roles and vice versa.

I had a lot of fun dream casting my fave shows but this meme also raised the problem of the ridiculously poor choice of characters women have access to and how monochrome the entertainment industry is. It is all the more disheartening when you can envision how more complex and relatable the tv shows and movies would be with more diversity and an eclectic portrayal of personalities for the female characters. The concepts and stories stories were used to enjoying would be told through different point of views, through a different spectrum making them refreshing instead of the same cliches that we have to swallow over and over again.
don't get me wrong, the writing for the women, especially in television, has improved but still I'm dying to have Sandra Oh play one day a character as complex, unsexy, un glamorous and deep as Gaius Baltar or Kerry Washington playing the mysterious and still hard to decipher Peter Florrick.
The main problem lies, not in the acting department, where it is the lowest level without any true influence, but more in the higher spheres of the entertainment business eg the financing, producing, writing, casting and directing jobs that serisouly lack divefsity in gender and color. Those are the true areas where change has to be made, i'm not asking for affirmative action but more equal opportunity so i can be told of new stories that are yet to find their way onto the audience.
So yeah, the road is still way ahead of us, but we're getting there, baby step by baby step.

The Vampire Diaries hiatus is long long long . TOO DAMN LONG.
I migh watch Gossip Girl again just because Dan and Balir are FINALLY getting together!!! At frakking last. And yeah I stopped watching since early season 1 ....
