Winterguard Ego Trip

Mar 17, 2009 12:35

This post is a bit late, but I still wanted to write this.

I remember back in high school watching the really good guards - Plymouth, Interplay, Third Edition, Ferndale, etc. - and being in awe, looking up to them. I couldn't wait to join a guard like that, to go to WGI - but I wasn't sure if I ever would.

Flash-forward to now: two weeks ago, we took first in our class at a WGI Regional. We're projected to make Finals in Dayton. FINALS. The fact that we're even talking about going there geeks me out (if we can get the money together - we're so close!).

Then, on top of that, I had three girls tell me at the Lakeland show that they wanted to be in State of Art, and the girls from Flushing were like, "HOW CAN I GET BETTER AT WEAPON?????" (Me: "Practice!") It was so cute.

But, it's so weird to think that it was me in their shoes not that long ago. And I don't think I expected State of Art to get this good - I hoped we would, but I didn't know where we were headed.

I also think it's funny that, coming out of high school, I wanted to be on Interplay A...who we beat by 10 points at our last matchup. Dang.

So I guess what I'm trying to say is: 1. This guard is good for my ego (hehe) and 2. It's funny how things change - for the better.

OH - completely unrelated, but I had my interview for the DCI internship yesterday! And it went pretty well! They liked that I have pretty broad experience - they asked me if I knew AP Style, lol (I was like, WHERE IS MY STYLE GUIDE??) - and, if I get it, we can work out housing and whatnot. w00t!
