I Have Been Changed For Good

May 08, 2007 15:35

I was working in my room, listening to "Wicked," 'cause it's awesome, and it got towards the end and "For Good" came on. That was our unofficial class song between me and my friends last year (unofficial because the official one was "Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)" by Green Day - I loooove that song too) because of what it means and also because we saw "Wicked" during the band trip to New York.

As I was listening, I realized that it more and more applies to my life.

“I’ve heard it said that people come into our lives for a reason, bringing something we must learn, and we are lead to those who help us most to grow if we let them, and we help them in return. Well, I don’t know if I believe that’s true, but I know I’m who I am today because I knew you.”

At the end of senior year, I knew it was true - so many people influenced me along the way that lead me to who I am now. Betsy especially (obviously), teachers (mostly my journalism ones), even people that I wasn’t that close with but still impacted me some way - like the people who introduced me to corps, and, ugh, Shelby.

But it’s an ongoing thing, too. I’m still meeting people that are impacting me. It’s not a past-tense thing; it can be, but whether you realize it or not, you’re constantly changing thanks to the people around you. When you think about it, probably everyone you meet has some impact on you - why else would you meet them? You probably just don’t realize why at first, though sometimes you do.

And so ends me being philosophical…expect some I-hate-home posts soon. The initial niceness is wearing off. Except for the shower, I still love the shower.

friends, wicked
