Having a new puppy is a lot like having a new baby, only you don't have to change a puppy's diaper. In a way, I think I would prefer it since diaper changing involves remaining inside at 5am, not outside, in my bathrobe, watching blearily as a dog whose legs are two inches long at best picks her way distastefully through wet grass to find a good spot to pee.

On the plus side, though, she is just about one of the sweetest dogs I have ever met and I hope she keeps that disposition. Watching that tiny little pup scramble around my house (hardwood floors, lol) playing with my older dog is just about the most hilarious thing I have ever seen. I have a great little video of the two of them playing tug of war with a little rope toy...or rather, my large yellow Lab lying on the floor, holding one end of the toy while the puppy tries frantically to tug it away from her. Few things are as amusing to see a puppy who isn't much larger than a good-size tennis shoe playing with a dog who is the size of a ten-year old kid. My Lab has to lie down on the floor for them to play together and that puppy is WEARING HER OUT, poor thing. She slept the sleep of the righteous last night.

I can hear that they are playing together now because it sounds like a herd of elephants with extremely short legs is tromping through my house.
