One other thing. I know this is an old pet peeve, but it relates to my last post.
Dear FF7 fanboys and girls,
The name of the character is not Aerith. Get over it. I know you think the English version, "Aeris", is some horrible mistranslation. It's still not accurate, but it's not bad. It's written in katakana, so it must be a foreign word.
See, in Japanese, there is no "th" sound. The japanese mix it up with "s", just like they do with "R" and "L", so the "th" cannot be the original phoneme. There is also no long "I", so they must combine their vowels to approximate the sound. It is entirely concievable that a Japanese person could hear "Iris" spoken and transliterate it as A (as in father)-E (as in engine)Ri/Li-Su. Not knowing how it was originally spelled in English, it is entirely likely that someone along the line put it back into English(as is trendy in Japan) as "Aerith" in the marketing materials, where it was picked up by misguided american fans.
See? Iris. If you're going to be snotty about some insignificant detail, at least get it right.
