Boston

Wow. Time is flying!!!

I can't believe I moved in on Saturday-- and it's already almost Wednesday.... I really need to get a grip on this staying home all day, not going outside, jobless period of time.

Anyway, just to fill in the gaps:

Saturday was amazing. Chaotic, stressful, and exhausting, yes.... but amazing nonetheless thanks to my amazing family who's tireless efforts had Adam and I unpacked and entirely moved-in in less than a few hours. Bright and early me and my family (mom and dad in the UHaul, Me, Amber, Britt, Ben, and Jon in the minivan) driving to Adam's house at 8am. We got there around 9:30, brought all his stuff outside, packed it into the truck, and rode off to Somerville. His parents ended up staying behind on account of his mom not feeling very well. So after a crazy ride through the tunnels of Boston, we arrived in Cambridge, immediately got lost (briefly), found our way thanks to a the directions of a kind woman running by, and drove up onto our street, Concord Avenue, which just so happened to be entirely clear of parked cars--- leaving the perfect amount of space to pull up and unload right in front of the building!!! We flew through the unloading process in just 40 minutes-- I stayed behind in the truck unloading everything onto the street where it was then picked up and carried inside by a stream of family members who took turns running it up the flights of stairs to our apartment. When it was all up and out of the truck, my dad drove the Uhaul back to the place (4 minutes away), and Adam and Amber followed in his car so they could bring my dad back. As it turns out, it was apparently the most stressful driving situation ever as the mapquest directions were ridiculously confusing--- causing Adam to at one point drive the wrong way down a one way street. Oh boy.

Luckily everyone made it back alive, and in time to start the process of building the countless new pieces of furniture-- coffee table, bedroom end tables, dvd tower, small shelf, lamps, pantry cart, and makeshift kitchen counter top. Phewwf! My mom set to cleaning the bathroom floor to ceiling while Jon worked on the kitchen, Brittany and Ben organized my books, I set up the studio, and Dad, Amber and Adam assembled things. It was so chaotic and overwhelming, but I could not believe how amazing everyone was. The apartment was completely unpacked, organized, and finished--- including all pictures hung on the wall-- by 8pm that night. I am still in awe with sheer gratitude for all their hard work. My family is the best!

So here we are, living together finally! I feel remarkably at home in our little place. It may be small, but it is super clean and exactly as I hoped it would be! The only problem I now face having nothing left to do in terms of settling in is that I no longer have an excuse not to get my lazy ass a job! I feel so completely guilty for busying myself about the apartment while Adam has to get up and go to work all day. I guess my best plan (besides the emailing of publishing companies I did today) is to hoof the streets of Harvard, Central, and Porter Squares looking for a job. I think I will give myself a few more days and wait until the weather looks a bit more friendly. I can't say I'm very eager to go exploring in the impending rain and snow....

So life is pretty great. And it keeps getting better! Yesterday we found out that parking in the lot next to our building is included in our rent---and NOT an extra $100 a month as we were led to believe! So perhaps with the money we will be saving we can get cable tv instead! Maybe...

Please take this as an open invitation to visit Adam and I whenever you want! The only tricky thing would be the parking situation, as most places are permit parking only (except on Sundays). But we'd love company and to welcome you all to our cute little new home!

In other news-- at the end of last week I received the first proofs of my illustrations from my editor at Abrams. I was very pleased with the way they turned out (tad too dark but hopefully they will adjust that before going to print.) I've yet to see the printed cover but they did send me a preview of it laid out with the text and everything and it was exciting because it's all starting to feel like a real book! I sure hope it leads to something else in the future! Perhaps tomorrow I can stay productive by getting my manuscript and old book dummy together and start prepping it for sending out to publishers. Oh, the possibilities!
